Chapter 7 - The Uncut Tape

At 11:00 AM, the Vance Global headquarters on Park Avenue was surrounded by a wall of cameras. The Board of Directors had convened an emergency closed-door meeting to formally vote Ryan Vance out as Chief Executive Officer.
Inside the boardroom on the 50th floor, Margaret Vance sat at the head of the mahogany conference table. Despite her two cracked ribs and the thick makeup desperately concealing the swelling on her cheeks, she looked victorious. She wore a tailored black mourning suit, projecting the image of a grieving, battered mother forced to discipline a monstrous son.
Beside her sat Arthur Sterling, reviewing the proxy voting tally.
"We have seven of the nine board members confirmed, Margaret," Sterling whispered in her ear. "The vote will be unanimous. Ryan will be officially stripped of his CEO title and board seat within fifteen minutes. The DA has already agreed to unseal the indictment by noon."
Margaret smiled coldly, taking a delicate sip of iced water. "Good. Let the boy rot in Rikers. He will learn what happens when he chooses a common waitress over the dynasty that birthed him."
Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with an authoritative crash.
Ryan Vance walked into the room.
He didn't look like a disgraced heir hiding from the press. He wore a bespoke three-piece charcoal suit, an immaculate white shirt, and a deep burgundy tie. His posture radiated absolute, untouchable power.
The nine board members gasped, several of them instinctively standing up.
"Ryan!" Sterling shouted, rising to his feet and slamming his palms on the table. "You have no legal right to be in this room! Security, remove this man!"
"Sit down, Arthur," Ryan said, his voice quiet, calm, and terrifyingly cold.
Nobody moved. The two private security guards at the door remained frozen, their eyes locked on Ryan with immense deference. They knew who truly paid their salaries.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Margaret hissed, wincing as her bruised ribs flared with pain. "You are trespassing, Ryan! You are a violent criminal! The entire world has seen what you did to me!"
"The world saw what you *wanted* them to see, Mother," Ryan said, walking slowly to the head of the table. He stood directly opposite Margaret, resting his knuckles lightly against the polished wood. "A masterfully edited fiction. But you forgot one simple rule of modern warfare."
Ryan tapped the remote control mounted to the wall.
"The truth always broadcasts in 4K."
Instantly, the massive eighty-inch conference screens mounted around the room flickered to life. Simultaneously, across every major television network in the United States—CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, Bloomberg—and across every social media platform, the uncompressed surveillance video went live to three hundred million people.
The sound of Margaret’s savage voice blasted through the boardroom speakers:
*"A GIRL?! YOU'VE DISGRACED US!"*
The board members watched in absolute horror as the video clearly displayed Margaret delivering four brutal slaps across Emily’s pregnant face. They watched Emily fall heavily to the marble, clutching her belly in terror. They watched Margaret relentlessly hunt the pregnant woman, hurling porcelain and glass directly at her unborn child.
"Turn it off! TURN IT OFF!" Margaret screamed, her voice cracking into a panicked screech, her hands clawing at the table as if trying to physically tear the screens down.
Arthur Sterling’s face drained of all color. His hands began to shake violently. "My God..." he whispered. "The parabolic audio... it picked up everything."
The screens then cut to a live press conference being held on the steps of New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
District Attorney Evelyn Carter, flanked by Detective Marcus Miller, stood behind a forest of microphones. Her voice boomed with uncompromising authority:
> *"Earlier this morning, heavily edited footage was leaked to the public in a malicious attempt to frame Ryan Vance for elder abuse. My office has conducted a full forensic analysis of the authentic security footage from Vance Manor. The evidence is unequivocal. Ryan Vance acted in direct, lawful defense of his wife and unborn child against an unprovoked, felonious assault. Consequently, all allegations against Ryan Vance are dismissed with prejudice."*
The DA paused, her eyes staring directly into the camera lens with cold fury.
> *"Furthermore, a New York State grand jury has just returned a six-count indictment against Margaret Vance. The charges include Attempted Murder of an Unborn Child, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Tampering with Evidence, and Filing a False Police Report. Arrest warrants have been issued, effective immediately."*
Inside the boardroom, the silence was absolute.
Margaret sat paralyzed, her eyes bulging with terror, staring at the screen where her mugshot was about to replace her empire. She slowly looked up at Ryan.
"Ryan... please..." Margaret gasped, her voice trembling, her aristocratic pride disintegrating into pathetic desperation. "I am your mother... you can’t do this to me... think of the family name! Think of the Vance legacy!"
"The Vance legacy doesn't belong to a monster who tried to kill her own granddaughter," Ryan said, his eyes drilling into her soul without a shred of mercy.
The boardroom doors opened once more.
Detective Marcus Miller entered, accompanied by four armed NYPD officers and two federal marshals holding a pair of heavy steel handcuffs.

"Margaret Vance," Detective Miller announced, his voice cutting through the room like a guillotine. "Stand up and place your hands behind your back."
