Chapter 58 - The Fall of the Matriarch

The grand foyer filled with federal agents within ninety seconds. Tactical teams swarmed the grounds, securing Victoria’s wounded mercenaries and confiscating the diplomatic vehicles under an emergency national security writ.
Victoria Vance sat handcuffed on the cold marble floor, her ermine coat torn, her hair falling in wild, silver strands around her face. Two federal prosecutors stood over her, reading from an indictment that stretched across thirty-two pages of federal statutes—trafficking in unregistered biomedical pathogens, illegal offshore human experimentation, corporate espionage, and three counts of attempted murder.
"This is an outrage!" Victoria screamed, her voice cracking into a shrill, desperate rasp as two agents hauled her to her feet. "I am a Vance! My family built this state! You cannot touch me! Ryan! Tell them! Tell them who I am!"
Ryan stood beside Claire, his arm wrapped firmly around his wife’s waist. He looked at the woman who had given him life, who had tried to murder his wife, who had treated his brothers and sister like biological assets on a ledger.
"You aren't a Vance anymore," Ryan said softly, his voice cutting through her screams like a scalpel. "The foundation has been placed into federal receivership. Every asset, every offshore trust, every square foot of land Charles stole is being liquidated to fund restitution for the victims of Whitehall. You leave this house with nothing, Victoria. Not a name. Not a dime. Not a son."
Victoria’s eyes locked onto Claire with pure, distilled poison. "You think you’ve won, you little parasite? Look at your husband! Look at his sister! The rot is in their bones! You’ll spend the rest of your life looking at your child, wondering when the Vance madness will wake up inside him!"
"My son will know who his parents are," Claire answered, her voice trembling slightly with emotion, but steady with absolute resolve. "And he will never know your name."
The federal agents dragged Victoria Vance out the front doors of Vance Manor. Her screams faded into the damp morning air, swallowed by the roar of the armored transport engines as they carried her toward a federal detention center from which no amount of offshore money could ever buy her release.
Upstairs, a heavy thud broke the silence.
Ryan and Claire turned instantly.
Eve had collapsed against the mezzanine railing, the rifle clattering to the floor.
Ryan took the stairs three at a time, catching his sister before her head could strike the oak steps. Dr. Webb and Thorne arrived seconds later, carrying the emergency medical pack.
Eve’s skin had turned a terrifying, translucent blue. Her breathing was shallow, rattled with fluid, her pupils dilated to the edge of her silver irises.
"Her vitals are crashing," Webb shouted, ripping open an ampoule of synthetic stabilizer. "The shock of the aerosol gas earlier... it accelerated the cellular cascade! She doesn't have ten days, Ryan! She has six hours!"
Ryan held Eve’s head in his lap, his fingers pressing against her trembling jaw. "Eve. Stay with me. Thorne, prep the Gulfstream. We’re flying to Geneva now."
Eve weakly lifted a hand, her cold fingers wrapping around Ryan’s wrist with surprising urgency. "The... the vault... Ryan... Geneva isn't an office..."
"What do you mean?" Ryan asked, leaning down to catch her failing voice.
"Charles... moved it," Eve gasped, coughing up another trace of dark blood. "When the rig fell... the automated backup... transferred to the secondary facility..."
"Where?" Claire knelt beside them, brushing the damp hair from Eve’s cold forehead. "Eve, look at me. Where is the facility?"
Eve’s eyes rolled back slightly, her voice barely a whisper against the roaring wind outside.

"Underneath... the manor," Eve breathed. "Beneath... the foundations. The original lab. Protocol Zero... is waking up."
