Chapter 87 - The Bloodline Ledger

Back at the secure hospital wing, the clear liquid from the titanium case was slowly dripping through Olivia's secondary IV line.

Her color was returning. The terrifying blue hue had left her lips, replaced by a soft, natural rose. Her breathing was deep, rhythmic, and peaceful.

Beside her bed, Ethan sat holding the tiny, swaddled bundle of their newborn daughter.

"Grace," Ethan whispered, his thumb gently stroking the baby’s impossibly soft cheek. "Your mother named you Grace months ago. She said after all the cruelty in this family, we needed something unearned, something pure."

The baby blinked open deep, navy-blue eyes, looking up at him with a calm that defied the violence that had brought her into the world.

A soft groan came from the bed.

Ethan turned instantly.

Olivia’s eyelids fluttered, then opened. She looked around the dim, secure room, disoriented, before her gaze locked onto Ethan and the bundle in his arms.

Tears immediately welled in her hazel eyes. "Ethan..." she croaked, her throat raw from the intubation tube. "Is she...?"

"She's here, my love," Ethan choked out, leaning down, placing the baby gently against Olivia’s chest. "She’s healthy. She’s perfect. You saved her, Liv. You brought her into this world."

Olivia wrapped her trembling, IV-bruised arms around their child, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated relief. For the first time in years, the crushing weight of paranoia, fear, and betrayal seemed to lift from Ethan’s shoulders as he wrapped his arms around both of them.

Then, the satellite tablet on the side table vibrated violently.

The screen illuminated with an incoming video feed. The connection bypassed the hospital's military-grade firewall with chilling ease.

Ethan stiffened. He glanced at Olivia, who looked at the screen with immediate apprehension.

Ethan picked up the tablet and accepted the feed.

The screen flickered, revealing an expansive, wood-paneled study lined with ancient books and grandfather clocks. Sitting in a high-backed leather chair, attached to a portable oxygen cannula, was Charles Sterling.

He looked older, his hair completely silver, his face hollowed by disease, but the predatory intelligence in his eyes remained entirely untouched by time.

*"Hello, Ethan,"* the old man said, his voice wheezing slightly through the oxygen tube. *"I see the antigen worked. Thorne always was reliable when properly compensated."*

"You son of a bitch," Ethan said, his voice flat, devoid of emotion. "You sat in the shadows while Victoria nearly killed Olivia. You unleashed private mercenaries on your own granddaughter."

Charles let out a dry, rattling cough that sounded like dry leaves scraping over stone. *"A test of resolve, Ethan. If you couldn't protect your family from a third-rate socialite and a compromised PMC, you would never survive what the Council had planned for you. You passed. Both of you did."*

"I am not your student, Charles. And I am not your heir," Ethan snarled. "I am coming to Queens to put an end to this. To put you where you belong."

Charles leaned forward, his piercing eyes boring through the digital screen. *"You will come to Queens, yes. But not for revenge. You will come because the liquidation script Victoria triggered cannot be stopped from outside my private terminal. If you don't enter the biometric authorization codes together with me before sunrise, everything I built—everything that ensures your daughter’s safety for the rest of her life—will be dissolved into the Council's offshore ghost funds."*

Charles raised a withered hand, holding a heavy gold signet ring to the camera. *"Dawn is in two hours, Ethan. Come claim your empire. Or watch Manhattan burn."*

The screen went black.
