Chapter 12 - The Ghost in the Boardroom

The executive floor of Vance Global was suspended sixty stories above the bustling streets of Manhattan.

Normally, the hum of high-stakes commerce brought Julian a sense of total control, but today the air felt suffocating.

Across the sprawling conference table sat Marcus Vance, Julian’s estranged first cousin and the black sheep of the family’s European division.

Marcus wore an impeccably tailored Italian suit, a smug, insolent smirk playing across his sharp features.

"You look tired, Julian," Marcus remarked, casually sliding an espresso cup across the glass surface. "Fatherhood doesn't seem to agree with your stamina."

Julian leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table, his gaze cold and unyielding.

"I didn't call this emergency board meeting to discuss my personal life, Marcus," Julian said evenly.

"Then why are we here?" Marcus countered, spreading his hands innocently. "I was under the impression our family reunion was strictly social."

Julian reached into his leather portfolio and tossed a thick dossier onto the center of the table.

The pages fanned out, revealing forensic audit trails and unauthorized wire transfers exceeding fifty million dollars.

"Three shell corporations registered in the Cayman Islands purchased six percent of our voting stock over the past two weeks," Julian said, his voice lethal.

Marcus did not flinch, his smirk only widening.

"A savvy investment group sees value in our brand," Marcus said. "That’s capitalism, dear cousin."

"The primary signatory on those offshore accounts is an attorney disbarred in three states," Julian interrupted. "A man who worked exclusively for my mother."

The room grew dead silent as the air chilled between them.

Marcus tilted his head, watching Julian with amusement rather than fear.

"Aunt Victoria may be legally removed from the board, Julian, but you stripped her of her dignity," Marcus said softly.

"She put her hands on my pregnant wife," Julian growled, rising from his chair, towering over his cousin.

Marcus didn't back down; he rose slowly to meet Julian’s furious stare.

"A street girl from Queens carrying an heir to a five-billion-dollar dynasty," Marcus sneered quietly. "Aunt Victoria was simply protecting what was ours."

Julian grabbed Marcus by the lapels of his designer jacket, shoving him back against the floor-to-ceiling glass wall.

The city sprawled beneath them like a miniature toy set, indifferent to the violence brewing high above.

"Listen to me very carefully," Julian hissed, his face inches from Marcus's. "If my mother or you take one step toward my wife or daughter, stock shares won't save you."

"The stock isn't for us, Julian," Marcus whispered, grinning through the threat.

Marcus reached into his pocket and placed an official court summons against Julian’s chest.

"It’s for the family trust," Marcus stated. "Aunt Victoria is challenging Maya's inheritance rights on grounds of questionable legitimacy."
