The remaining guests in the hallway began backing away toward the exit doors, eager to distance themselves from the catastrophic drama.
Mrs. Vance gave Rosalind one last look of profound pity mixed with disgust before turning on her heel and walking out.
“Don't call my husband about the country club membership renewal, Rosalind; I believe your family has more pressing financial matters,” Mrs. Vance called out.
