Chapter 18 - Gwen Rejects Every Single Plea For Family Help

Heather opened her mouth to launch another verbal assault, but the icy, unyielding look in Gwen’s eyes stopped her dead in her tracks.

She realized with sudden, chilling clarity that manipulation and guilt trips no longer worked on the woman standing before her.

“You’ll regret this, Gwen; nobody turns their back on the Dupont-San Diego circle and gets away with it,” Heather hissed venomously.

“The Duponts wouldn't know your name if you weren't standing next to a trash can begging for table scraps,” Gwen retorted sharply.

Heather slammed the apartment door behind her so hard the cheap drywall cracked near the deadbolt lock.

Gwen walked back to her kitchen counter, calmly setting her teacup down without a single tremor in her hands.

Her phone chimed with an email notification from Marcus Vance confirming that Brandon’s settlement offer had been formally rejected.
