By Tuesday afternoon, the disastrous birthday party at the community center was the talk of every country club in San Diego.

Rosalind sat in her sprawling living room, but her phone remained dead silent for the first time in thirty years.

When she dialed Mrs. Dupont to confirm their weekly bridge luncheon, the line went straight to a polite automated rejection message.

When she tried texting other high-society acquaintances, her messages were read but left completely unanswered.

The elite social circle she had spent decades cultivating had dropped her faster than a bad stock investment.

Heather stormed into the house, slamming the front door so hard the crystal chandelier in the entryway rattled dangerously.
