Chapter 6 - Brandon Stammers Through A Pathetic Excuse In Public

“Stop it, Gwen! You’re taking everything completely out of context!” Brandon shouted, his face soaked in nervous sweat.
“Then explain the context, Brandon,” Mrs. Vance called out from the hallway, leaning against the doorframe with folded arms.
“Explain why your wife is funding your family’s extravagant lifestyle while you spend your weekends playing golf with clients.”
Brandon opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water, unable to string together a single coherent lie.
“She... she likes managing the household finances! It’s her role as a supportive partner!” Brandon stammered pathetically.
“A supportive partner doesn’t get handed two hundred dollars to feed thirty VIP guests on a milestone birthday,” an uncle muttered from the back.
Rosalind clutched her lavender dress, staring at her son with a mixture of utter disbelief and burning disappointment.
“Is this true, Brandon? Did you really give your wife two hundred dollars for my seventieth birthday?” Rosalind demanded quietly.

Brandon looked at the floor, unable to meet his mother’s furious gaze as the truth finally cornered him.
“I had unexpected expenses at the country club... I figured she had savings she could tap into,” Brandon mumbled under his breath.
