Chapter 10 - Planning A Covert Mission To Rescue His Daughter

Thomas and Clara left the locked study, walking briskly through the grand foyer toward the subterranean garage exit.
The rain had begun to pour outside, drumming a heavy rhythm against the glass skylights of the sprawling estate.
Thomas unlocked his armored black SUV, tossing a tactical duffel bag containing night-vision gear and medical supplies into the back.
“The drive to Vermont will take at least four hours if we push the speed limit through the mountain passes,” Thomas noted grimly.
“We’ll make it in three if we take the logging bypass roads that avoid state police speed traps,” Clara suggested knowledgeably.
Thomas looked at her with newfound respect, realizing that the young maid was far more capable than her title suggested.
“Clara, who taught you about tactical bypass roads and federal wire transfers?” Thomas asked as he started the heavy engine.
“My father was a state trooper before he was forced out by corrupt corporate contractors,” Clara answered quietly, buckling her seatbelt.
The SUV roared to life, accelerating down the winding estate driveway into the stormy New England night.
