The heavy armored SUV bounced violently along the rocky logging trail, splashing through deep puddles of muddy water.
Thomas navigated the treacherous terrain with expert precision, relying entirely on the infrared night-vision display mounted on his dashboard.
“We’re coming up on the western perimeter fence just past the old water tower,” Clara directed, pointing at the tablet screen.
Thomas killed the engine, letting the vehicle roll silently into a thick grove of towering hemlock trees to avoid detection.
They stepped out into the freezing rain, pulling their waterproof tactical hoods tightly over their heads.
“Take this pistol, Clara; set the safety off and stay close behind me,” Thomas instructed, handing her the pearl-handled revolver.
Clara nodded firmly, checking the chamber before sliding the weapon into her coat pocket with practiced confidence.
They crept stealthily toward the chain-link perimeter fence topped with coiled barbed wire and motion-activated security cameras.
Thomas pulled a pair of heavy insulated wire cutters from his tactical bag, snapping through the galvanized steel links in seconds.
