Chapter 7 - Thomas Realizes His Entire Life Has Been A Lie

Thomas stood in the study reviewing the frozen bank notifications flashing green across his tablet screen.
“Her offshore accounts are locked down; she can no longer wire hush money to the sanatorium staff,” Thomas announced with satisfaction.
“That will make the medical directors panic and abandon their posts, giving us a window to enter the facility,” Clara noted approvingly.
Thomas walked over to the mirror, adjusting his slate-gray suit jacket and sliding the licensed firearm into his leather holster.
“We leave for Vermont in twenty minutes, Clara; pack whatever supplies we might need for the journey north,” Thomas instructed.
Clara nodded, turning toward the study exit just as the heavy oak doors unlocked from the outside with a sharp click.
Standing in the doorway was Mrs. Thomas, her expression completely calm despite the chaos unfolding around her.
“Going somewhere late at night, darling?” she asked, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness and concealed venom.
Thomas did not flinch; he stepped forward to block her view of the desk and the incriminating ledger resting upon it.
