Chapter 4 - Unlocking The Secret Facility Funded By His Wife
Thomas returned to the study, slamming the heavy wooden door shut and locking it with a sharp turn of the brass key.
“We don't have much time before she realizes we know her secret,” Thomas said, his mind racing with desperate urgency.
Clara pulled a small leather-bound ledger out from the hidden pocket of her maid’s apron and tossed it onto the desk.
“This ledger contains every single monthly wire transfer made from your private corporate holdings to the Pine Ridge Sanatorium in Vermont,” Clara said.
Thomas opened the leather book, his eyes widening in horror as he recognized his own forged signature authorizing the medical payments.
“She used my signature stamp while I was traveling abroad on corporate acquisitions last year,” Thomas realized with blinding clarity.
“She’s been paying ten thousand dollars every month to keep your daughter heavily sedated and isolated from the outside world,” Clara confirmed.
Thomas slammed his fist down onto the desk, rattling the crystal decanter and shattering the fragile peace of the old study.
“We are driving up to Vermont tonight, Clara; I am going to bring my little girl back home where she belongs,” Thomas vowed fiercely.
