Chapter 37 - The Boardroom Siege

The Van Allen Tower in Midtown Manhattan pierced the cloudy New York sky like a monument of black obsidian.
On the sixty-fourth floor, the grand mahogany boardroom was locked down under private security detail.
Twenty board members in tailored suits sat around the oval table, whispering in nervous, hurried tones.
At the head of the table sat Arthur Van Allen, wearing a pristine navy bespoke suit, sipping vintage scotch from a crystal tumbler.
"Gentlemen, ladies," Arthur began, tapping his gold pen against the crystal glass to command silence. "We are here to stabilize this great enterprise."
The room fell completely quiet, the board members looking at Arthur with anxious deference.
"My sister-in-law, Victoria, is currently incarcerated facing federal charges," Arthur continued smoothly. "And my nephew, Daniel, has suffered a severe psychiatric break, disappearing into the mountains with an unstable woman."
He paused, letting the fabricated narrative sink into the minds of the wealthy shareholders.
"Under Article Nine of the corporate charter," Arthur proclaimed, "I am officially motioning to declare Daniel Van Allen legally incompetent and assume total executive authority."
"I second the motion," an elderly board member chimed in, eager to protect his stock dividends.
"All in favor—" Arthur began, raising his right hand.
The heavy mahogany double doors of the boardroom were suddenly blown off their hinges with a deafening crack.
Four armed federal marshals stormed the room, assault rifles raised, fanning out along the perimeter.
"Nobody move!" the lead agent bellowed, pointing a sidearm directly at the center of the table.
Behind the agents walked Daniel Van Allen, tall, broad-shouldered, and completely commanding in a tailored black suit.
Clinging tightly to his arm was Emily, wearing an elegant ivory sheath dress, her head held high with regal poise.
Arthur’s crystal tumbler slipped from his fingers, shattering across the polished mahogany table and spilling amber scotch over the corporate ledgers.

"Daniel?" Arthur stammered, his aristocratic composure cracking for the first time in his life.
"Vote’s canceled, Uncle Arthur," Daniel said, stepping into the center of the boardroom like an apex predator returning to his pride.
