Chapter 20 - The Point of No Return

“MOM! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
Daniel’s voice tore through the Gulfstream cabin like a deafening crack of thunder.
It wasn't just anger.
It was a terrifying, guttural roar of absolute, primitive fury.
The roar was so loud, so violent, that even the pilots in the sealed cockpit flicked on the cabin intercom in alarm.
Vanessa flinched violently, her entire body jerking backward as if she had been struck by lightning.
Her raised hand slowly dropped to her side.
She stood paralyzed in the center of the aisle, her breath catching in her throat.
Very slowly, like a rusted statue, Vanessa turned her head toward the back of the plane.
Her eyes met Daniel’s.
Daniel took one slow, deliberate step forward into the cabin light.
His jaw was clenched so hard the muscles in his cheeks bulged.
His hands, hanging at his sides, curled into tight, trembling fists, the knuckles turning paper-white.
His dark eyes were wide with a horrifying mixture of shock, betrayal, and murderous rage.
Vanessa’s haughty, aristocratic arrogance instantly evaporated into thin air.
Her pale face turned completely ashen, her crimson lips trembling as she realized what she had just done.
Daniel had witnessed every single second.
On the floor between them, Emily looked up through her tear-blurred vision, gasping for air as another sharp cramp seized her stomach.
“Daniel...” Emily whispered weakly, reaching a shaking hand toward him before slumping lower onto the carpet.
Daniel didn’t say another word.
He began walking down the aisle toward his mother, his footsteps heavy, measured, and terrifyingly fast.
Vanessa took an involuntary step backward, her back pressing hard against the bulkhead, trapped in the corner of the jet.
She looked at her son—the son she had controlled and manipulated for thirty years—and for the very first time in her life, she saw pure, unadulterated hatred in his eyes.

The plane sliced silently through the freezing clouds above the Rockies.
And inside the cabin, the world was about to explode.
