Chapter 16 - The Toss

Vanessa’s eyes dropped down to the low mahogany table between them.
There sat Emily’s cream-colored leather handbag, perfectly placed beside the crystal water coaster.
Vanessa’s face twisted into an expression of utter revulsion.
“And this cheap piece of garbage,” Vanessa hissed, lunging forward with shocking speed.
Her manicured hands gripped the leather strap of Emily’s bag.
“No! Vanessa, please!” Emily cried out, reaching forward to stop her.
Inside that bag were her medical records, her daily medication, and her late mother’s silver locket.
Vanessa didn't care.
With a violent, vicious jerk, she ripped the cream handbag off the mahogany table.
The contents shifted loudly inside as Vanessa swung her arm backward.
“You don’t belong in this cabin!” Vanessa shrieked.
With full, unrestricted force, Vanessa hurled the cream handbag down the center aisle.
The bag crashed violently against the carpeted floor ten feet away, sliding across the cabin like a piece of worthless trash.
The zipper burst open under the impact.
Prescription pill bottles, ultrasound black-and-white photos, and a small silver chain spilled out across the floor.
Emily let out a shattered, breathless sob.
She instinctively pulled her knees toward her chest, wrapping both arms entirely around her eight-month belly.
She was shaking uncontrollably, terrified that Vanessa might physically strike her stomach next.
“Look at your trash where it belongs!” Vanessa shouted, stepping over the threshold of the aisle.
Her voice echoed violently through the luxury cabin, fueled by years of buried, irrational hatred.
In the galley, Hannah peeked through the curtain again, her hands over her mouth in sheer horror.

The plane banked slightly through a patch of light turbulence, making the floor tilt.
Yet Vanessa stood completely steady, consumed by an uncontrolled, psychotic fury.
