Chapter 28 - The Press Conference Bloodbath

By 6:00 AM, the courtyard outside Aspen Valley Hospital was swarming with television satellite trucks, paparazzi, and reporters from every major national news network.
Word of the Van Allen private jet emergency landing had leaked across social media, igniting a viral firestorm.
The hospital’s glass double doors swung open, and Vanessa Van Allen stepped out into the crisp morning sunlight.
She wore oversized designer sunglasses, an immaculate black wool coat, and carried a leather Hermes bag.
Her legal team flanked her on either side, shielding her from the flashing cameras.
Vanessa stepped up to the makeshift podium assembled by the eager press corps, offering a practiced, melancholic smile for the cameras.
"Members of the press," Vanessa began, her tone dripping with rehearsed maternal sorrow. "I want to thank you for your prayers. My dear daughter-in-law Emily suffered a minor, unfortunate fainting spell during our private flight due to early pregnancy fatigue. She is resting comfortably under the finest private care—"
"That is a complete lie!"
A thunderous voice cracked through the courtyard speakers, shocking the crowd into dead silence.
Daniel stepped through the hospital doors, unkempt, unbuttoned, his shirt still visibly stained with Emily's blood.
The paparazzi went into a frenzy, shutters clicking like a thousand swarming insects.
"Daniel, get back inside!" Vanessa hissed under her breath, turning toward him with panic flashing behind her dark lenses.
Daniel shoved her aside, stepping directly in front of the bank of microphones.
"My mother, Vanessa Van Allen, did not bring my wife here for medical care," Daniel announced to millions of viewers watching live across America. "She assaulted my pregnant wife at thirty thousand feet and attempted to murder our unborn child with concentrated toxic compounds!"
Gasps rippled violently through the crowd of elite journalists.
"Daniel! Shut your mouth!" Vanessa screamed, completely losing her composure on live national television.

Daniel pulled the hospital’s sealed toxicology report from his coat and thrust it high into the morning air.
"Here are the chemical tests from the Aspen trauma bay!" Daniel shouted over the roar of the media. "Vanessa Van Allen is not a matriarch. She is an attempted murderer!"
