Later that evening, I dined at a quiet, secluded restaurant overlooking the sparkling lights of the River Thames.
My father joined me, pouring a glass of fine vintage wine into my crystal goblet with a proud smile.
“You handled the corporate transition with the precision of a seasoned veteran,” Dad praised sincerely.
“I learned from the best teacher in the world,” I smiled back, clinking my glass against his.
“Do you regret any of it? The three years spent playing an ordinary wife in Los Angeles?” he asked gently.
“Not a single second,” I replied honestly. “It taught me who people really are when they think you have nothing to offer.”
