Chapter 13 - Adrian Tries To Beg His Wife For Forgiveness

Inside a cold federal holding facility, Adrian sat on a stainless-steel bench wearing an orange inmate jumpsuit.

His hair was uncombed, his skin pale, and the expensive tailored suit replaced by standard prison issue garments.

A guard unlocked the visitor booth door, sliding a telephone across the partition as Adrian picked it up eagerly.

“Claire? Is that you?” Adrian’s voice sounded desperate and hollow through the heavy glass speaker.

“It’s me, Adrian,” I replied calmly from the comfort of my penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park.

“Please... I’ll sign whatever you want, I’ll give you a divorce on any terms, just make your father drop the federal charges.”

“The federal charges belong to the United States Department of Justice, Adrian, not my father,” I corrected him.

“You destroyed my life over a mistake! Vanessa meant nothing to me!” he shouted, slamming his fist against the glass.

“You didn’t make a mistake, Adrian; you revealed your true character,” I stated before hanging up the phone permanently.
