By afternoon, a sleek white Gulfstream private jet waited on the private tarmac at Van Nuys Airport.
The cabin interior was outfitted with cream leather seating, polished wood accents, and personal workstations.
My father stood by the airstrip steps, holding a fresh leather portfolio containing the global restructuring agreements.
“The board of Sterling Global Industries is waiting for your arrival in London next Tuesday,” Dad informed me.
“Let them wait a few more days; I need a quiet weekend in our upstate New York retreat first,” I smiled.
“Take all the time you need, sweetheart; the empire isn't going anywhere anymore,” my father laughed warmly.
