The peaceful quiet of the night was violently shattered at 3:00 AM by the harsh flashing lights of police cruisers surrounding the estate.
Pounding echoed against the front mahogany doors as local law enforcement officers demanded immediate entry under emergency warrants.
Nathan strode down the grand staircase in a dark silk robe, his jaw clenched as the chief inspector stepped into the foyer.
“Mr. Cole, we have a federal felony warrant for Grace Miller for child abduction and interstate kidnapping,” the inspector announced loudly.
“That warrant is entirely fabricated!” Nathan shouted, stepping forward to block the hallway leading to the guest wing.
