Chapter 14 - Grace Recalls The Brutal Threats From Late Father

Back inside the estate library, Grace sat by the window watching the rain clear over the sprawling Long Island lawns.

Nathan walked in quietly, pouring two cups of hot coffee and handing one gently to the woman who had suffered for years.

“You don’t have to burn your entire life down for us, Nathan,” Grace whispered, blowing softly across the steaming rim.

“My father stole five years of our daughter’s life and subjected you to unimaginable terror,” Nathan replied with fierce conviction.

“I spent my entire life worshiping a legacy built on lies and cruelty, Grace... it’s time to sweep the foundation clean.”

Grace looked up at him, seeing the profound transformation in the man she had loved in a quiet Chicago bakery years ago.

“When this is all over, where do we go?” she asked softly, her voice carrying the weight of a hopeful future.

“Wherever you want, as long as we go together,” Nathan promised, taking her uninjured hand in his.
