Chapter 4 - Evelyn Begs Claire To Drop The Formal Charges
Evelyn scurried across the rug, throwing herself between Claire and the police officers with desperate pleading in her eyes.
“Claire, please, I am begging you as a mother... do not let these officers ruin our family name over a petty spat,” Evelyn whispered.
Claire looked down at her mother-in-law without a single ounce of warmth or sympathy remaining in her heart.
“Where was your concern for my safety when your son fractured my skin with porcelain shards just moments ago?” Claire asked quietly.
“We can settle this in private! We can give you whatever financial settlement you want!” Evelyn hissed under her breath.
“My life and safety are not for sale, Evelyn, and neither is justice,” Claire answered, her voice cutting through the silent room.
Officer Vance stepped closer, pulling out his official pocket notepad and clicking his pen into readiness.
