Chapter 2 - Police Sirens Echo Outside The Elegant Dining Room

The high-pitched wail of police sirens pierced through the heavy Connecticut night air, growing louder with every passing second.

Multiple patrol cruisers turned into the sprawling estate driveway, their red and blue lights flashing against the stone pillars.

Mark’s face lost its flush of anger, replaced instantly by a pale, hollow look of utter disbelief.

“You actually called the real police to our house, Claire?” Mark hissed, his voice trembling beneath a veneer of false bravado.

“You assaulted me in front of twenty witnesses, Mark; you brought this upon yourself,” Claire replied with freezing calm.

Evelyn clutched her diamond necklace, her aristocratic composure completely shattering as she heard car doors slam outside.

“This is an absolute catastrophe for our family’s public reputation!” Evelyn gasped, looking frantically toward the double doors.
