Desperate to salvage what remained of her family’s crumbling empire, Evelyn spent the early hours making frantic phone calls.
She dialed the private numbers of key corporate board members and former business partners across New York City.
“I need you to sign an affidavit stating Claire was unstable and hallucinated the entire dining room incident,” Evelyn pleaded.
“Evelyn, your son was arrested on live video feeds; our law firm cannot touch this catastrophe with a ten-foot pole,” a board member replied.
“I will wire five hundred thousand dollars into your offshore account today if you just testify on our behalf!” Evelyn offered wildly.

“You’re digging your own grave by attempting witness tampering, Evelyn; stop calling this line,” the board member clicked hang up.
Evelyn dropped her golden smartphone onto the marble floor, listening to the hollow dial tone echoing in the dark hallway.
