At noon, Dr. Alistair walked into the estate library carrying a thick, sealed envelope bearing the Manhattan Genetics Lab crest.
Vincent, Eleanor, and Claire gathered around the mahogany table as the doctor slid the official report out of its folder.
“Based on mitochondrial DNA sequencing and chromosomal markers, the probability of biological maternity is ninety-nine point nine percent,” Dr. Alistair announced.
Eleanor burst into tears of pure joy, throwing her arms around Claire’s neck and holding her tightly.
“My baby... my sweet Lucia... you really came back to me,” Eleanor sobbed into her shoulder.
Claire felt a warm tear slip down her own cheek as the final scientific confirmation locked into place.
Vincent signed the legal acknowledgment documents, stamping them with the Moretti corporate seal of authenticity.
