Chapter 2 - Eleanor Confirms The Shocking Childhood Fire Connection

The crystal chandelier above the ballroom seemed to blur as Eleanor Moretti fell to her knees on the marble floor.
Her manicured fingers reached out, trembling violently as they hovered inches from Claire’s scarred shoulder.
“You carried her out of the nursery,” Eleanor wept, her voice breaking with decades of suppressed grief.
“I didn’t know who she was... I just saw a little girl trapped behind a locked door,” Claire whispered.
The forty wealthy guests stood in frozen silence, utterly stunned by the sudden emotional unraveling of the matriarch.
Vincent stepped forward, dropping to one knee beside his mother and wrapping a strong arm around her shaking shoulders.
“Mom, what are you talking about? Who are you saying she is?” Vincent asked, his deep voice laced with urgency.
