Chapter 7 - Greenwich Police Cruisers Arrive At The Front Gates
Out front on Round Hill Road, the serene silence of the wealthy Greenwich estate was shattered by the piercing wail of approaching sirens.
Two matte-black Greenwich Police Department cruisers crested the winding driveway, their emergency LED light bars painting the towering iron gates in frantic red and blue strokes.
The automated security intercom mounted on the stone pillar buzzed loudly, but the responding officers didn't bother waiting for a remote answer.
Officer Vance killed his engine, jumping out of the cruiser with his hand resting cautiously on his service holster as he marched toward the gatehouse.
“Greenwich Police! Open the security gates immediately under emergency dispatch protocol!” Vance commanded into the intercom speaker.
Inside the main estate security booth, the private night guard scrambled out of his ergonomic chair, staring in disbelief at the police monitors.
“You can’t enter private property without a judicial warrant or prior executive clearance from Mr. Hawthorne!” the guard shouted through the speaker.
Officer Vance flashed his gold badge directly into the security camera lens with unyielding authority.
“We received an active 911 open-line reporting a child unlawfully confined and endangered on these premises; open this gate right now, or we breach it with the cruiser ram,” Vance warned.
The security guard paled instantly, realizing the severe legal implications of defying a live child endangerment call in Fairfield County.
With shaking hands, the guard hit the master override button, and the heavy wrought-iron gates swung wide open into the crisp autumn night.
