Chapter 16 - Noah Recovers Safely In A Top Tier Hospital

Inside a sunlit pediatric recovery suite at Greenwich Hospital, the morning sun poured through the large double-paned windows.
Noah sat propped up against crisp white hospital pillows, sipping warm chicken broth from a ceramic bowl while watching cartoons on television.
Maya sat in the armchair beside the bed, reading a hardcover storybook aloud with a gentle, reassuring smile on her face.
“And then the little bear found his way back home to his family,” Maya read softly, turning the page of the book.
Noah smiled, looking up at her with clear, bright eyes that no longer held the shadow of fear and starvation.
“Are we ever going back to that big house, Maya?” Noah asked quietly, clutching his worn stuffed fox against his chest.
“We won't have to worry about that house ever again, sweetie; your father is selling the estate, and we’re moving somewhere safe and sunny,” Maya promised.
The door opened gently, and a hospital social worker stepped inside accompanied by a family court representative.
