Chapter 12 - Celeste’s Mask Shatters As Federal Marshals Take Over

The cold steel handcuffs clicked sharply around Celeste’s wrists, shattering the untouchable illusion of her high-society existence forever.
“You cannot arrest me! Do you have any idea who my family is in this state? My father owns half the commercial real estate in Fairfield County!” she shrieked.
“Your father’s real estate empire won't save you from federal felony charges, Mrs. Hawthorne,” a deep, authoritative voice echoed from the hallway.
Special Agent Carter of the Federal Bureau of Investigation walked past Officer Miller, flashing his gold federal badge under the wall sconce.
“The FBI’s civil rights division has been tracking suspicious child disappearance reports linked to private Greenwich trusts for over six months,” Carter announced.
Jonathan stared in sheer disbelief as federal agents in tactical windbreakers swarmed the west wing corridor behind the local police.
“Agent Carter... I didn't know about the hidden room; I swear to god I had no idea she locked him in the walls,” Jonathan pleaded pathetically.
“Ignorance is not a legal defense when you signed fraudulent medical commitment mandates without verifying your son’s physical location,” Carter replied coldly.
Celeste thrashed against the federal agents, her expensive designer gown ripping at the seams as she was dragged toward the main exit doors.
“You’re all going to pay for this! My attorneys will strip your badges before the sun rises!” she cursed wildly into the empty hallway.
