Chapter 17 - Maya Receives Protection And Recognition From Federal Authorities

Downstairs in the hospital lobby, Special Agent Carter waited for Maya by the elevators to deliver some important official documents.

He handed her a thick federal envelope bearing the Department of Justice seal and a secure encrypted communication phone.

“For your exceptional bravery and decisive action, the federal witness protection and informant reward boards have authorized a commendation,” Carter said.

“I don't need a reward, Agent Carter; I just want to make sure Noah is safe and protected for the rest of his life,” Maya replied sincerely.

“He is safe, and the federal trust established by his late mother Evelyn is now fully unlocked and transferred to his legal guardians,” Carter assured her.

“What about Jonathan and Celeste?” Maya asked, watching the elevator numbers tick upward.

“Celeste is facing life without parole in a federal penitentiary, and Jonathan has surrendered his corporate assets to pay for Noah’s long-term care,” Carter stated.

Maya nodded, feeling a profound sense of closure wash over her soul as the final pieces of the puzzle clicked into place.
