Chapter 4 - The Digital Trap

Eleanor rose to her full height, her bare feet planted like iron anchors upon the bloodstained marble terrace.

Across the wide courtyard, several guests were frantically tapping their phone screens, their faces pale with terror.

They were suddenly realizing the legal nightmare they had just actively participated in and documented.

One socialite, an investment heiress named Vanessa, quietly began selecting her recorded video files to delete them.

“Do not touch those screens!” Eleanor’s command cracked across the lawn like a sniper’s bullet.

Vanessa froze instantly, her manicured thumb hovering a millimeter above the trash can icon on her phone.

Eleanor pointed a steady, lethal finger toward the entire assembly of paralyzed aristocrats.

“If I see a single finger tap a screen to delete evidence, I will ensure you face felony tampering charges by midnight.”

Richard had managed to haul his battered body up against the stone railing, spitting red saliva onto the white tiles.

His nose was broken and crooked, swelling rapidly into an ugly shade of dark purple.

“You… you crazy psycho!” Richard wheezed, clutching his fractured ribs with both trembling hands.

“You committed assault on private property! You assaulted my wife! You attacked an Ashford patriarch!”

“Look at her!” Evelyn shrieked, finally crawling out of the thorny rose bushes on her hands and knees.

Her hair was a tangled bird's nest of twigs, dirt, and shredded green leaves.

Her expensive dress was ripped to shreds, exposing bloodied scratches across her shoulders and arms.

“She is a maniac! Call the police immediately! Have her locked away forever!” Evelyn wailed to the motionless guests.

Eleanor walked with slow, deliberate footsteps toward the shattered banquet table.

She picked up Richard’s silver walking cane, testing its heavy weight in her right hand.

The guests gasped, shrinking back as if she were carrying a live grenade.

“Call them, Richard,” Eleanor said, her voice dropping into a terrifyingly soft, hypnotic register.

“Please, pick up your phone and dial nine-one-one right now.”

Richard hesitated, his eyes darting frantically between Eleanor and the dozens of phones held by the guests.

“What is the matter, dear brother-in-law?” Eleanor mocked, tapping the cane against the stone floor.

“You wanted an audience for your little show, didn't you?”

“You had all your pathetic sycophants record every slap, every insult, and every drop of soup.”

“You wanted a video to blackmail my son into signing away his life.”

“Instead, you gave me thirty high-definition angles of felony assault, kidnapping, and unlawful imprisonment.”

The color drained entirely from Richard’s swollen, battered face.

The realization slammed into his skull with the force of a high-speed freight train.

Those videos did not just show Toby being humiliated.

They showed Richard tying the boy’s hands behind a pillar with crimson ribbon.

They showed Richard striking a defenseless teenager across the face without any provocation whatsoever.

They showed Evelyn dumping cold food onto a restrained captive while ordering him to surrender his rights.

Every single guest had unwittingly become an official documentarian of aggravated felony abuse.

“Delete them!” Richard suddenly roared at the crowd, panic stripping all dignity from his gravelly voice.

“All of you, delete those damn videos right now! Wipe your cloud storage! Throw the phones in the pool!”

“Anyone who destroys evidence will be prosecuted as an accessory after the fact!” Eleanor’s voice boomed with absolute authority.

She pulled her own pristine phone from her inner blazer pocket and pressed a single button on speed dial.

“Captain Vance,” Eleanor spoke clearly into the speakerphone, her eyes locked dead onto Richard’s soul.

“Seal every exit of the Ashford North Shore estate immediately.”

“We have multiple counts of kidnapping, attempted extortion, and organized felony assault in progress.”
