Chapter 8 - Blood on the Tarmac

The landing gear hit the tarmac with a hard skid. Before the rotors had even slowed, the cabin doors were kicked open.

Briggs and two elite private security contractors moved out in a textbook wedge formation, laying down suppressing fire with non-lethal flash-bangs and precision rubberized rounds, instantly disorienting Blackwell's private security detail.

Gunshots cracked through the howling wind. Men shouted, slipping on the slick tarmac as Blackwell's mercenaries scrambled for cover behind the Escalades.

"Victoria! Get inside the plane!" Blackwell roared, grabbing her arm and dragging her toward the stairs.

"He's here! Alexander is here!" Victoria screamed, hysterical with panic. "He knows everything, Marcus! He's going to kill us!"

"Shut up and move!" Blackwell snarled, shoving her up the steps.

Alexander moved through the rain with terrifying efficiency. He closed the distance between the helicopter and the jet, dropping two of Blackwell's armed bodyguards with brutal, bone-snapping close-quarters combat strikes. His rage, suppressed for years under the polished surface of a corporate CEO, was now unleashed with lethal precision.

Elena followed immediately behind, dragging a wounded mercenary away from an exposed fuel line, applying a tourniquet to his bleeding leg in less than fifteen seconds before sprinting toward the stairs.

"Blackwell!" Elena shouted. Her voice cut through the gunfire, sharp and commanding.

Blackwell paused on the aircraft platform, his hand on the cabin door. He turned and saw Elena standing on the wet runway below him, rain plastering her hair to her face, her eyes blazing with righteous fury.

"You should have stayed dead, little girl," Blackwell hissed, raising his firearm directly at Elena's chest.

"DON'T TOUCH HER!"

Alexander materialized from behind the jet’s landing gear, lunging forward like a predator. He knocked Blackwell's arm upward just as the gun fired. The bullet shattered the runway light above them in an explosion of sparks.

Alexander slammed Blackwell against the fuselage of the multi-million-dollar aircraft. The impact rattled the metal frame. Alexander’s hand clamped around Blackwell's throat, lifting the older man nearly off his feet.

"You poisoned my father," Alexander growled, his eyes burning with lethal intent. "You poisoned Hastings. And you destroyed an innocent family."

Blackwell choked, clawing at Alexander's vice-like grip, a sickening grin stretching across his purple lips. "You... you can't touch me, Vance... The Sterling family owns the courts... you have... no proof..."

"I have the proof," a voice echoed from inside the jet.

Everyone froze.

Victoria Sterling stepped onto the platform, holding Marcus Blackwell’s encrypted hard drive and a thumb drive she had pulled from his briefcase. She was shivering, her expensive mascara running down her hollow cheeks, her eyes wild with betrayal.

"He told me we were running away together," Victoria wept, looking at Alexander with broken desperation. "He told me he loved me! But I just heard him on the phone with his pilots... he was planning to throw me out of the plane over the Atlantic once we cleared US airspace!"

Blackwell's eyes widened in horror. "Victoria... you stupid bitch... give me that!"

"No!" Victoria screamed, tossing the hard drive directly off the platform.

Elena caught the drive out of the air with surgical reflexes.

"Everything is on that drive," Victoria sobbed, sinking to her knees on the wet metal stairs. "The poison formulas. The offshore accounts. The orders to murder Alexander’s father and Dr. Bennett’s father. Everything."

Alexander looked back at Blackwell. His grip tightened for a fraction of a second, tempting him to snap the traitor's neck where he stood.

Elena placed a gentle, calming hand on Alexander’s arm.

"Alexander," she said softly, her voice the only anchor holding him back from the abyss. "Don't become like him. He dies in a concrete cell, stripped of everything. Not as a martyr on this runway."

Alexander took a long, ragged breath. He looked into Elena’s steady eyes, feeling the storm within him begin to recede.

He hurled Blackwell face-first onto the tarmac, where Briggs immediately slammed him into zip-ties.

"Book him," Alexander ordered, his voice cold and final. "Call the FBI. And tell them the Vance Corporation is handing over the largest corporate conspiracy in American history."
