Chapter 10 - Victoria Meets With Her High-Priced Lawyers
Inside the harsh fluorescent-lit consultation room of the federal county jail, Victoria sat across from her high-priced defense attorney.
Attorney Sterling flipped through the federal indictment papers with a deeply troubled expression on his face.
“Victoria, I have to be completely honest with you; the wire fraud and child endangerment charges are airtight,” Sterling said.
“What are you talking about? You’re the best criminal defense lawyer in New York! You can get me out of this!” Victoria demanded angrily.
“I can get you out if there’s a procedural flaw, but your husband’s legal team provided a 4K multi-angle video confession,” Sterling countered.
Victoria crossed her arms, biting her lip as the terrifying reality of a lengthy prison sentence began to sink in.
“Can we plead insanity? Or claim post-partum emotional distress?” Victoria whispered desperately.
“Not when the prosecution has emails proving premeditation dating back four months before the incident,” Sterling replied flatly.
“Your bail has been denied completely due to your multiple foreign passports and clear flight risk indicators,” the lawyer added.
