Chapter 9 - Ethan Promotes Maria To Head Estate Manager
The morning sun cast a warm golden glow across the expansive breakfast terrace of the Greenwich estate.
Ethan sat at the wrought-iron table drinking black coffee when Maria walked out carrying a fresh tray of pastries.
“Maria, please sit down for a moment; I want to discuss a permanent change in your employment contract,” Ethan requested gently.
Maria hesitated, setting the tray down before taking a respectful seat across from her employer.
“Am I being transferred, Mr. Hawthorne? I understand if the household wants a fresh start after all this drama,” Maria asked nervously.
“Quite the opposite, Maria; I am appointing you as the new Head Estate Manager for all domestic operations,” Ethan announced.
Maria’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief as she processed the massive promotion and the accompanying salary increase.
“Mr. Hawthorne, I am deeply honored, but I only started as a junior maid a few months ago,” Maria stammered humbly.
“You possess loyalty, intelligence, and moral courage qualities that money simply cannot buy in this industry,” Ethan stated warmly.
