Chapter 9 - The Purge of Vance Enterprises

Forty-eight hours later, the storm had passed, leaving behind a crisp, cloudless autumn morning that bathed the glass-and-steel monolith of Vance Enterprises’ global headquarters in Manhattan in brilliant golden sunlight.

Inside the executive boardroom on the 60th floor, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.

The massive conference table of polished obsidian was surrounded by the remaining members of the Board of Directors, their corporate attorneys, and federal observers from the Securities and Exchange Commission. Whispers buzzed through the room like a swarm of hornets. The morning newspapers across the globe had exploded with sensational headlines:

**THE VANCE HEIR HOAX: BILLIONAIRE WIFE ARRESTED IN POISONING AND FAKE PREGNANCY PLOT**

**COO JULIAN VANCE INDICTED ON FIRST-DEGREE MURDER CHARGES IN ZURICH HIT-AND-RUN**

**THE TRILLION-DOLLAR BETRAYAL AT VANCE ENTERPRISES**

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Nathan Vance stepped inside.

He was dressed in a sharp, charcoal-gray three-piece suit, his hair neatly combed, his posture commanding and unyielding. But he was not alone. Walking beside him, holding his hand, was Leo, dressed in a sharp navy blazer.

The murmurs instantly ceased. Every executive and director straightened in their seats, their faces pale, their eyes filled with apprehension. Two of the board members—men who had secretly taken payouts from Julian—looked as though they were facing an executioner.

Nathan walked to the head of the table, pulling out the grand leather chair. He did not sit. Instead, he lifted Leo up and seated the seven-year-old boy directly in the CEO’s chair.

Nathan stood behind him, resting his hands firmly on the child’s shoulders, staring down the length of the table with eyes that could cut through steel.

“Gentlemen,” Nathan began, his voice echoing with absolute authority in the high-ceilinged room. “As you are well aware, over the last forty-eight hours, the federal government has dismantled the criminal conspiracy that infested this company. Julian Vance and Vanessa Vance are currently being held without bail at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, facing multiple counts of attempted murder, corporate espionage, wire fraud, and the premeditated homicide of Dr. Clara Vance.”

Nathan paused, his gaze locking onto the two compromised board members, who visibly shrank beneath his stare.

“The internal audit is complete,” Nathan continued smoothly. “The board members who accepted equity swaps and offshore bribes from Julian have already had their resignation letters drafted by the Department of Justice. Federal marshals are currently waiting in the lobby to escort you off the premises.”

One of the men opened his mouth to protest, but Nathan cut him off with a single, sharp gesture of his hand.

“Do not speak,” Nathan warned, his tone dangerously low. “If you say a single word, I will ensure that the civil lawsuits I file strip your families of every asset, every home, and every trust fund you possess. Get out.”

The two disgraced executives stood up silently, their hands shaking as they gathered their briefcases, and hurried out of the boardroom under the watchful eyes of private security.

Nathan turned his attention to the remaining directors.

“Now,” Nathan said, his voice softening slightly. “Let us address the Vance family trust and the future of this enterprise. For eight months, you were led to believe that a new heir would inherit the controlling interest of this company. That narrative was a grotesque fabrication engineered by a monster.”

Nathan placed a hand gently on Leo’s head.

“However, the bylaws of Vance Enterprises remain clear. In the event of a catastrophic restructuring, the founder retains the right to designate an unconditional successor to the proprietary neural-regeneration patents. As of 9:00 AM this morning, I have legally adopted Leo Vance as my son and sole heir.”

A collective gasp swept through the room, followed by the furious scribbling of corporate attorneys.

“Leo owns forty percent of the voting shares, effective immediately,” Nathan declared proudly. “The remaining sixty percent remains under my absolute control. Vance Enterprises will no longer pursue commercial monetization of the neuro-regeneration therapy. We will be converting the entire division into an open-source, non-profit medical foundation bearing the name of Dr. Clara Vance.”

The remaining board members, realizing that Nathan had just executed one of the most brilliant and morally unassailable corporate pivots in modern history, slowly rose to their feet. One by one, they began to applaud.

Leo sat in the massive leather chair, looking around the room of powerful adults, then looked up at Nathan.

For the first time since the ordeal had begun, the boy smiled—a genuine, warm, childish smile that reached his dark eyes.

The nightmare was finally over. The truth had conquered the illusion.
