Chapter 13 - The Blueprint of Project Cerulean

The revelation hung over the room like a suffocating shroud. If the woman locked in the supermax was an impostor who had been dead for weeks, then Vanessa had slipped through the federal dragnet during the chaos of the initial penthouse raid. The empire hadn't fallen; it had merely shed its outer layer of skin.

"She played us," Nathan whispered, staring blankly at the wall. "She knew the raid was coming. She used the spectacle of her exposure to stage her own disappearance."

"She couldn't have pulled this off alone," Kane said, furiously tapping commands into his tactical tablet. "To smuggle a surgically altered corpse into a federal black site requires clearance from the highest corridors of the intelligence community. Someone financed her. Someone who wanted whatever was inside that synthetic womb."

Suddenly, Leo's small voice broke the heavy silence. "The blue water," he said, staring at the floor.

Nathan immediately dropped to his knees in front of the boy, taking his cold hands. "What did you say, Leo? What about the blue water?"

Leo’s eyes were glassy, as if he were recalling a half-remembered nightmare from months ago. "Before the party... before you came home that day, Uncle Nathan. She took me down to the furnace room in the cellar. She had a metal cooler. She told me that if I ever told you about the noises in the walls, she would put the blue water in my milk. She said it makes people forget who they are, and then their bodies belong to the clinic."

Nathan’s jaw tightened until his teeth ached. "What clinic, buddy? Did she say a name?"

Leo reached into his pocket and pulled out a tiny, tarnished silver coin. It wasn't money. It was an access token, stamped with a serpent coiled around a double-helix needle, with the letters engraved: *ST. JUDE BIOMETRIC REPOSITORY – HARBOR COVE.*

Kane looked at the token, his face draining of all color. "Harbor Cove was a private fertility and genomics institute outside Boston. It burned to the ground ten years ago after an illegal stem-cell scandal."

"Not burned," Nathan growled, rising to his full height, his eyes ignited by a cold, lethal fury. "Hidden. That’s where my brother Julian invested forty million dollars of Vance capital right before he died in that suspicious car crash. Vanessa didn't just marry me for money, Kane. She was Julian’s researcher before she ever laid eyes on me. She murdered my brother, took over his life's work, and then came for me to finish the harvest."
