Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Socialite Queen

On the other end of the phone line, Mikhail Volkov let out a long, heavy exhale that crackled through the ballroom’s high-end sound system.

“She told you,” Volkov said flatly, his gravelly voice admitting complete defeat without a single shot being fired.

“She didn't tell me anything,” Luca replied, looking down at the broken woman bleeding onto the imported Italian marble.

“A brave little maid with more honor in her broken pinky finger than your entire bloodline told me.”

Volkov paused, the sound of rustling papers audible in the background.

“The girl was business, Luca,” Volkov said coldly, trying to maintain some semblance of criminal diplomacy.

“Nothing personal. The Sterling girl came to us with the proposal. We simply accepted the terms.”

Luca’s expression didn't change; his face remained a mask of ancient stone.

“It became personal the moment you agreed to put my child in a cage, Mikhail,” Luca said softly.

“By tomorrow morning, every warehouse, every shipping container, and every nightclub your family owns south of the Chicago River will burn.”

“If you step foot into Cook County ever again, I will personally skin you alive in front of your brothers.”

Luca ended the call without waiting for a response and tossed the phone onto the table.

He looked at Marco.

“The tunnels,” Luca ordered.

Marco raised his tactical radio to his lips.

“Team Bravo, initiate protocol Hades in drainage quadrant four. Flood the pipes,” Marco commanded.

Down in the deep subterranean foundations of the estate, the heavy industrial floodgates were opened.

Hundreds of thousands of gallons of high-pressure reservoir water were released into the ancient drainage tunnels.

Faint, muffled shouts and the panicked sounds of drowning men echoed distantly through the mansion’s floorboards before being swallowed by the roar of water.

Volkov’s elite extraction squad had been wiped out in less than forty seconds without ever breaching the vault perimeter.

The guests in the ballroom shuddered at the ruthless efficiency of Don Moretti’s countermeasure.

Vanessa, realizing that her last hope of rescue or leverage had literally drowned beneath her feet, began to crawl toward her father’s table.

“Daddy… please!” Vanessa sobbed, clutching the tailored trousers of Charles Sterling, the billionaire developer.

“Daddy, tell him! Tell Luca we can pay him back! We have the offshore accounts in Panama! Daddy, don't let him kill me!”

Charles Sterling looked down at his daughter with eyes full of absolute horror, not for her suffering, but for his own survival.

He violently kicked his leg back, tearing his trousers from her bloody grasp.

“You are no daughter of mine,” Charles Sterling said in a trembling, terrified voice, bowing his head toward Luca.

“Don Moretti… I swear to Almighty God, on my life, I knew nothing of this plot!” Charles pleaded, dropping to both knees.

“Take her! Take my companies! Take everything I own! Just spare the rest of my family!”

Vanessa stared at her father in utter disbelief, her mouth hanging open as her own flesh and blood traded her life for his bank accounts.

This was the world she had tried so desperately to conquer: a world devoid of love, built purely on power, transaction, and fear.

And now, having failed to play the game, she was being discarded like yesterday’s garbage.

Luca walked over to Charles Sterling, looking down at the groveling billionaire with profound contempt.

“Your companies already belong to me, Charles,” Luca said, his voice slicing through the man's pathetic excuses.

“Every loan your development firm holds was bought out by Moretti Holdings three months ago.”

“You are broke. Your properties are forfeit. And you have until dawn to pack a single suitcase and leave this country forever.”

Charles Sterling wept with relief, repeatedly kissing the floor at Luca’s feet before scrambling out of the side exit like a whipped dog.

Vanessa was now entirely alone.

She sat in the center of the vast ballroom floor, surrounded by two hundred people who viewed her as a poisonous insect waiting to be crushed.

She slowly looked up at Luca, her bloody lips twisting into a hideous, broken grin of pure malice.

“Go ahead, Luca,” Vanessa hissed, her voice hoarse from screaming.

“Put a bullet in my head! Do it right here in front of all your fancy guests!”

“Show everyone what a monster you really are! You think killing me brings Maria back?”

“You think killing me will stop Lily from waking up screaming in the dark every night for the rest of her miserable life?”

Luca didn't draw his gun.

He didn't raise his hand.

Instead, a cold, mocking smile touched the corner of his lips.

“Death would be a mercy for you, Vanessa,” Luca said quietly.

“And I am not feeling merciful tonight.”

Luca turned his back on her, signaling two of his largest enforcers to step forward.

“Strip her of every piece of jewelry that belongs to this family,” Luca commanded.

“The ring. The necklace. The earrings. Every single diamond was paid for with Moretti blood.”

The two enforcers moved in like mechanical reapers.

Vanessa screamed and fought like a feral cat as the massive guards pinned her down.

They ruthlessly yanked the five-carat engagement ring from her finger, snapping the nail completely down to the quick.

They ripped the emerald necklace from her throat, scattering pearls and gold links across the blood-stained marble.

By the time they were done, she was nothing more than a bruised, sobbing creature in a shredded green dress, stripped of every ounce of prestige she had ever possessed.

“Where are you taking me?” Vanessa wailed as the guards hauled her toward the back service corridor.

Luca didn't even turn around to look at her.

May you like

“You like small, cold rooms where nobody can hear you scream, don't you?” Luca murmured.

“Let’s see how much you like the basement of the Cook County federal holding cells when the cartel women find out what you did to a child.”
