Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a True Family

Six months later, the early summer sun rose over the rolling green hills of the private Moretti estate.

The grand mansion, once cold, intimidating, and filled with dark criminal tension, was alive with the sound of laughter and birdsong.

Down in the manicured gardens, vibrant red roses and white lilies bloomed in explosive colors along the stone pathways.

Seven-year-old Lily was running through the grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy whose tail wagged frantically in the morning breeze.

Her cheeks were round, bright, and flushed with radiant health, her laughter echoing across the lawn without a trace of fear.

Standing near the marble gazebo, watching the little girl with a warm, maternal smile, was Sofia.

Sofia wore an elegant, tailored cream-colored dress that complemented her graceful posture and natural, understated beauty.

Her right hand, fully healed after three surgeries performed by the top micro-surgeons in the nation, showed only a faint, thin scar on the wrist.

Her fingers were completely restored, nimble and strong as she held a clipboard containing the estate’s daily operations.

As the official Head of the Moretti Household, Sofia commanded the respect of over fifty staff members and security personnel.

Nobody viewed her as an orphan maid anymore.

She was the beating heart of the estate, beloved by the staff and treated as royalty by the entire syndicate.

Her younger brother, Leo, had just finished his first semester at the top private academy in Chicago with straight A’s, his future secure for life.

Heavy, confident footsteps crunched softly on the gravel path behind her.

Sofia turned around, her smile deepening as Luca Moretti walked into the gazebo holding two cups of fresh espresso.

Luca was dressed casually in a dark linen shirt and slacks, looking more relaxed and content than he had in ten years.

The harsh, permanent scowl that had once terrified underworld bosses had softened into an expression of quiet peace.

“You're up early, Sofia,” Luca said, his deep voice rich and warm as he handed her a delicate porcelain cup.

“Lily wanted to see the puppy play before breakfast, Don Moretti,” Sofia replied, her voice soft and melodious.

Luca gently raised a brow, an amused smirk playing on his lips.

“What did I tell you about calling me 'Don Moretti' in our own garden, Sofia?” Luca chided her gently.

Sofia blushed slightly, lowering her gaze before looking back up into his warm, amber eyes.

“I’m sorry… Luca,” she murmured, the name rolling off her tongue with natural sweetness.

Luca stood beside her, leaning his forearms against the stone balustrade, watching his daughter tumble playfully onto the grass with the puppy.

“How is the hand feeling today?” Luca asked, glancing down at her healed wrist with genuine, persistent concern.

“The surgeon did an incredible job, Luca,” Sofia said, flexing her fingers smoothly in the morning sunlight.

“No pain at all. Even during the rain last week, I didn't feel a single ache.”

“Good,” Luca nodded, a fierce spark of paternal protectiveness still lingering deep within him.

“If it ever hurts, even for a second, I will have that doctor flown back from New York before lunch.”

Sofia let out a gentle laugh, shaking her head at the lengths Luca would go to ensure her comfort.

Over the past six months, their bond had grown far beyond that of a master and an employee.

They had weathered the storm together, rebuilding a broken home into an impenetrable fortress of love, loyalty, and genuine peace.

Luca reached into his inner pocket and pulled out a small, velvet jeweler's box, placing it quietly on the stone railing between them.

Sofia’s breath hitched in her throat, her brown eyes widening as she looked at the box, then up at Luca’s face.

“Luca… what is this?” she whispered, her heart beginning to hammer rapidly against her ribs.

Luca looked at her with an intensity that made the surrounding summer breeze feel electric.

“Open it,” Luca said softly.

With trembling fingers, Sofia opened the velvet box.

Inside rested a delicate platinum pendant shaped like an angel wing, studded with small, brilliant emeralds that matched the green of the garden.

It wasn't an engagement ring—it was an emblem of the Moretti inner circle, an ancient honor reserved only for true family members.

“Tonight is the annual summer summit of the Chicago syndicates,” Luca explained, his voice steady, solemn, and full of conviction.

“Every boss from the Midwest will be in attendance at the ballroom downstairs.”

“I want you to stand at my right hand, Sofia.”

“Not behind me as a servant. Not beside me as a decorative trophy like Vanessa tried to be.”

“As the co-ruler of this house. As Lily’s guardian. And as the woman who holds the soul of this family in her hands.”

Tears of pure, overwhelming gratitude welled up in Sofia’s eyes, sparkling like diamonds in the morning sun.

She looked down at the angel wing pendant, then back up at the powerful man who had given her and her brother a new life.

“I would be honored, Luca,” Sofia whispered, her voice choking with sweet emotion.

Luca gently took the pendant from the box and fastened it around her neck, his warm fingers brushing lightly against her skin.

Just then, Lily came running up the gazebo steps, out of breath and laughing hysterically with the puppy bouncing at her heels.

“Daddy! Miss Sofia! Look what Barnaby can do!” Lily shouted, holding up a small stick.

Lily suddenly stopped, noticing the beautiful necklace hanging around Sofia’s neck.

Her little eyes lit up like stars in the night sky.

“You gave her the angel wing!” Lily cheered, clapping her hands in pure, ecstatic delight.

“Does this mean Miss Sofia is staying forever and ever?”

Luca bent down on one knee, scooping his daughter into his arms with a broad, genuine smile spreading across his face.

He looked at Sofia, whose face was glowing with pure happiness, and then back at his daughter.

“Yes, Lily,” Luca said, his voice echoing across the peaceful, sun-drenched gardens of the Moretti estate.

“Miss Sofia is our family now. And nothing in this world will ever tear us apart again.”

Lily wrapped her arms around her father’s neck with one arm and reached out her other hand to hold Sofia’s healed fingers.
