Chapter 10 - The Dawn of Sterling Rebirth

Eight weeks later.
The snow on the Rocky Mountains was beginning to melt, giving way to the fresh green shoots of early spring.
In the sunlit private recovery wing of Denver Women’s Hospital, the gentle crying of a newborn filled the air.
Emily sat propped against soft pillows, cradling a beautiful baby girl with a shock of dark hair and bright, alert eyes. Julian sat on a chair beside the bed, looking humbled, broken, but genuinely seeking atonement.
He had signed over eighty percent of his personal voting shares in the Sterling empire into an irrevocable trust for Emily and the baby. He had stepped down as CEO to work with a legal defense fund for families victimized by corporate dynasties. He was no longer the pampered prince; he was a man beginning the long, painful road toward earning forgiveness.
"What should we name her?" Julian asked softly, his finger gently stroking the baby's tiny cheek.
Emily looked up as the door opened.
Daniel walked in. His wounds had healed into jagged, honorable scars. He wore simple jeans and a denim jacket, looking completely at peace.
"Her name is Daniella," Emily said, looking directly at her brother with tears of pure gratitude shining in her eyes. "Daniella Grace Sterling."
Daniel walked to the side of the bed. He looked down at the tiny miracle sleeping peacefully in his sister's arms. Slowly, carefully, his calloused, battle-hardened hand reached out.
Daniella’s tiny hand opened and clamped tightly around Daniel’s scarred index finger—the very finger that had held the edge of the cliff to save her life.
Daniel’s eyes grew misty. He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to his niece's forehead.

"Hello, little one," Daniel whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "You never have to be afraid of the dark. Your family is right here."
Outside the window, the spring sun broke through the remaining winter clouds, bathing the mountains in brilliant, unstoppable gold. The empire of lies had crumbled, and upon its ruins, a true family was born.
