Chapter 9 - The Eviction and the Collapse

Two black-and-white county sheriff cruisers, followed closely by an unmarked police SUV, roared up the winding estate driveway.
Behind the police vehicles came an industrial locksmith van and a flatbed commercial tow truck.
Julian watched in paralyzed horror as the convoy pulled up directly in front of the iron gates, their red and blue strobe lights flashing against the stone pillars.
The estate’s heavy iron gates groaned loudly as an automated system overrode the controls, swinging them wide open.
Four armed sheriff deputies stepped out of their vehicles, led by a stern-faced senior captain who walked directly toward Julian.
“Julian Sterling?” the captain barked, unholstering a clipboard containing official eviction and restraining warrants.
“Yes… yes, Captain, but there’s a massive misunderstanding here—” Julian stammered, his hands shaking violently.
“There’s no misunderstanding, sir,” the captain interrupted forcefully.
“We are executing an emergency writ of possession on behalf of the legal property owner, Elena Victoria Hawthorne.”
“You and any unauthorized occupants currently on the premises have precisely fifteen minutes to vacate this estate.”
At that exact moment, Martha came running down the stone steps of the mansion’s entrance, waving her hands in the air, her face purple with indignation.
She had heard the sirens and seen the commotion from the guest cottage windows.
“Stop this immediately!” Martha shrieked, running past the gates toward the officers.
“Do you know who we are? My son is Julian Sterling! This is our family estate! Arrest that woman in the gray suit, she’s trespassing!”
The captain turned to Martha with an icy stare that stopped her dead in her tracks.
“Ma’am, are you Martha Sterling?”
“Yes, I am the lady of this house!” Martha proclaimed loudly, trying to summon whatever aristocratic pride she had left.
“You are residing in the guest cottage illegally, ma’am,” the captain announced, handing her an eviction notice.
“The owner has revoked all residential licenses for non-family occupants.”
“Deputies are currently clearing your personal items from the guest cottage.”
Two junior deputies emerged from the driveway carrying six large, black industrial plastic garbage bags containing Martha’s clothes, makeup, and shoes.
They dropped the bags onto the gravel at the side of the road with an unceremonious thud.
“My clothes! My designer coats! How dare you put my possessions in trash bags!” Martha wailed, dropping to her knees in the dirt, clutching the plastic bags in hysterical despair.
Meanwhile, the driver of the flatbed tow truck backed up directly to Julian’s Porsche 911.
“Hey! Hey, what are you doing to my car?” Julian screamed, lunging toward the tow truck operator.
A burly deputy stepped instantly into Julian’s path, shoving him back forcefully against the gatepost.
“Step back, Mr. Sterling!” the deputy ordered.
“The vehicle is registered to a commercial lease through your former company, which has been terminated for breach of contract.”
“The vehicle is being impounded.”
Within minutes, the Porsche was winched onto the back of the flatbed truck, its alarms blaring uselessly into the cold afternoon air.
Chloe watched the destruction with wide, horrified eyes, realizing that every single promise Julian had ever made her was a toxic, fabricated lie.
She looked at Julian, who was now weeping openly, clutching his ruined papers against his chest, watching his leased car disappear down the road.
“You disgusting, pathetic pig,” Chloe spat, her voice trembling with hatred as she kicked Julian’s shin.
“You destroyed my career, you got me dragged into a federal fraud case, and you don't even have a pot to piss in!”
Chloe turned on her designer heels, grabbed her personal purse, and began walking frantically down the rural highway on foot, desperately trying to call an Uber that was forty minutes away.
Julian didn't even look after her.
He fell to his knees in the dirt beside his mother, who was sobbing uncontrollably into her plastic garbage bags.
The high-tech locksmiths immediately went to work on the mansion’s front doors, drilling out the old cylinders and replacing every deadbolt with biometric smart locks keyed exclusively to Elena’s fingerprints.
