Chapter 6 - You Work For Me

"Mr. Sterling," Elena began, her voice carrying a terrifyingly smooth, melodic cadence that froze the entire terrace.
"You may play golf in Dubai, and you may burn millions on yacht fuel to compensate for your profound inadequacies."
"But on this cliff, on this property, and under this roof, you are nothing more than a temporary occupant in a rented room."
Richard’s eyes bulged in pure, unadulterated disbelief, his mouth opening and closing like a suffocating carp.
Nobody had spoken to him in that tone of voice in over thirty-five years of corporate dominance.
Before Richard could unleash another roar, Elena gracefully reached into her blazer pocket and produced her resort radio.
She clicked the heavy-duty side button and spoke clearly into the microphone without breaking eye contact with Richard.
"Security Command, this is Director Vance. Code Black on the Oceanfront Terrace. Deploy Tactical Team One immediately."
The words 'Code Black' echoed over the static, sending an electric shockwave of panic through the surrounding staff.
In the five-star hospitality world, a Code Black was reserved exclusively for active, violent criminal threats.
Elena clicked the radio off, slipped it back into her pocket, and turned her back completely on Richard Sterling.
Turning your back on an enraged billionaire was the ultimate, unforgivable gesture of absolute disrespect.
Victoria gasped in outrage. "Did you see that?! She turned her back on you, Richard! Have her arrested!"
Elena ignored the shrieking matriarch entirely, her full attention turning to the trembling young man before her.
She looked at Toby, whose lips were turning a faint, dangerous shade of blue from prolonged hypothermia.
The thick, drying cake frosting was crusting against his eyelashes, and his bare hands were smeared with blood and glass dust.
Elena unbuttoned her tailored charcoal blazer, slid it off her shoulders, and draped it around Toby’s shivering frame.
The warm, expensive wool covered his soaked shoulders, immediately shielding him from the freezing offshore wind.
She pulled a clean, embroidered linen handkerchief from her cuff and gently, tenderly wiped the thick frosting from his eyes.
She cleaned the sticky white paste from his forehead, wiping away the humiliating mess with the care of an older sister.
Toby looked up at her through red, swollen eyes, entirely overwhelmed by the surreal kindness after such brutal cruelty.
"They're going to destroy you, Miss Vance... because of me..." Toby choked out, fresh tears spilling over his bruised cheeks.
Elena placed both of her hands firmly on Toby’s trembling shoulders, her hazel eyes radiating absolute, unshakable safety.
She spoke with a clarity so profound that every guest on the terrace heard every single syllable:
"Look at me, Toby. Look at me right now."
Toby forced his gaze up, locking eyes with the woman standing between him and the most powerful family in the state.
"You are an employee of this resort. You are under my personal protection," Elena said, her voice dropping with deep conviction.
"No amount of money, no family name, and no billionaire's tantrum will ever allow anyone to treat you like an animal."
"You work for me, Toby. And as long as you work for me, you are completely safe."
Toby’s knees gave out entirely, the emotional dam bursting within him as he wept tears of profound, overwhelming relief.
Behind them, Richard Sterling let out an incoherent roar of fury, completely humiliated by being openly dismissed.
"That is it! Harrison! Miller! Grab this woman and throw her off my terrace right now!" Richard screamed to his bodyguards.
His two private security guards, massive men weighing easily two hundred and fifty pounds each, stepped aggressively forward.
They reached their thick hands out to seize Elena by the shoulders, completely prepared to use brute force.
Before their fingers could even touch the fabric of her silk blouse, the heavy double doors of the terrace burst open with a crash.
Eight heavily armored, private resort tactical security officers poured onto the terrace in flawless, military formation.
They were dressed in tactical black gear, equipped with body armor, zip-ties, and state-of-the-art non-lethal sidearms.
In less than three seconds, the resort security team formed an impenetrable wall of black Kevlar directly in front of Elena.
The lead security officer, a massive former military specialist named Marcus, stepped forward, his eyes locked on Richard.
"Step back from the Managing Director immediately, sir," Marcus commanded, his hand resting firmly on his tactical belt.
Richard’s bodyguards instantly froze, wisely calculating the tactical nightmare of being outnumbered four-to-one.
Richard stood sputtering in sheer, helpless rage, while Victoria clung to his sleeve, her screeching finally dying down.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Richard bellowed at Elena over the shoulders of the armed guards.
"You're calling security on ME?! I am the client! I paid five hundred thousand dollars for this event tonight!"
Elena slowly turned around, stepping through the seam of her security detail with absolute, regal composure.

"You were a client, Mr. Sterling," Elena said, her voice dropping into an icy, final verdict.
"Now, you and your family are active suspects in a violent felony investigation."
