Chapter 2 - The Ribbons of Cruelty

Toby tried to stand, his knees wobbling violently as icy water dripped from his chin onto his chest.

His teeth chattered so loudly that the sound was audible to the guests standing nearby.

He dragged his shivering body toward the wooden chair, terrified that any defiance would ruin his family.

He sat down on the hard mahogany seat, his soaking trousers squelching against the polished wood.

"Please, ma'am, I'll pay for the broken glass out of my wages, please don't fire me," he whispered desperately.

Victoria let out a harsh, mocking laugh that cut through the silence like a dull blade.

"Pay for it? Your pathetic bloodline couldn't afford a single shard of that Venetian crystal," she sneered.

She leaned down and snatched several long strands of thick, wire-reinforced velvet ribbon from the shattered boxes.

Before anyone could realize what she was doing, she lunged behind the wooden chair.

She wrapped the heavy ribbon tightly around Toby’s chest and arms, binding him securely to the mahogany frame.

Toby cried out in sheer panic and tried to pull his arms free from the suffocating velvet cords.

"Don't move, you little parasite!" she spat, pulling the knots so tight that the fabric cut into his shoulders.

She looped the ribbon around his wrists, securing them firmly to the ornate armrests of the chair.

Toby was completely paralyzed, bound like a common criminal in the center of an elite anniversary gala.

Whispers broke out among the guests, but they were whispers of nervous amusement, not righteous indignation.

Some guests discreetly raised their wine glasses to conceal their smirks, thoroughly entertained by the spectacle.

Others subtly angled their smartphones from their waistlines, eager to capture the humiliation for private group chats.

Toby looked into the eyes of older men in tailored tuxedos, pleading silently for someone, anyone, to speak up.

Every single one of them averted their gaze, unwilling to offend the matriarch of the multi-billion-dollar Sterling Empire.

Then, heavy footsteps approached from the open-air bar, accompanied by a cruel, arrogant chuckle.

Garrett Sterling stepped into the clearing, holding a massive porcelain plate in his right hand.

Resting upon the plate was a towering, eight-inch slice of four-tier vanilla anniversary cake.

The cake was heavily coated in thick, dense white buttercream frosting and dripping with raspberry glaze.

Garrett stared down at Toby’s bound, shivering figure with utter disgust in his intoxicated eyes.

"You ruined my mother's entrance, you little piece of trash," Garrett announced loudly for the crowd to hear.

"You think an apology fixes this? You need to learn your place on the food chain."

Toby looked up at Garrett, his bruised lip trembling, fresh tears cutting clean paths through the grime on his face.

"Sir, please... I didn't mean to fall... please let me go..." Toby begged in a cracked, broken voice.

Garrett grinned, showing his bleached white teeth, thoroughly enjoying the godlike feeling of absolute domination.

He didn't just toss the cake; he put his entire athletic weight behind his throwing arm.

Garrett launched the massive slab of heavy frosting and pastry directly into Toby’s face from two feet away.

The impact hit Toby with sickening force, the heavy buttercream plastering over his eyes, nose, and open mouth.

Dense, sugary paste filled his eyelashes and choked his nostrils, while sweet raspberry syrup dripped down his neck.

The crowd erupted into scattered, uncomfortable laughter, egged on by Garrett’s booming, victorious roar.

"Look at him! Now he looks like the clown he actually is!" Garrett barked, wiping frosting from his fingers.

Victoria clapped her hands together in pure, unadulterated delight, her rings flashing under the party lights.

Toby closed his eyes tightly behind the thick layer of sticky white grease, entirely unable to lift his hands to wipe it away.

He bowed his head as far forward as the tight ribbons would permit, weeping silently beneath the suffocating mask of cake.

Every shred of human dignity he possessed was being systematically stripped away for their amusement.

He thought of his little sister waiting for him at home, clutching her inhaler and counting on his paycheck.

If he fought back, they would have him arrested; if he screamed, they would ensure he was blacklisted forever.

So he sat there, bound, freezing, bleeding, and covered in filth, praying the earth would open up and swallow him whole.

Garrett leaned in close, poking Toby’s cake-smeared temple with a sharp forefinger.

"You stay right there until the party ends at midnight, boy. You are our centerpiece tonight."

The guests chuckled again, lifting their champagne flutes to toast the cruel display of unchecked wealth.

They truly believed that money made them completely untouchable within the private walls of the luxury resort.

May you like

They had forgotten that even within the most exclusive sanctuaries on earth, there are absolute lines you never cross.

And far across the expansive terrace, beneath the shadow of the grand archway, those lines had just been crossed.
