Chapter 10 - The Sovereign’s Vow

Three weeks later.

The morning sun broke gently over the private gardens of the Moretti estate in Lake Geneva. The estate was heavily fortified, surrounded by private security, but inside the sunroom, the air was tranquil, filled with the scent of blooming jasmine and fresh ocean breeze.

Isabella sat in a deep velvet armchair, wrapped in a soft cashmere cardigan. Her color had returned, the bruises on her wrist faded to faint yellow shadows. On her lap, nestled together in a twin bassinet, slept Luca and Mia, their tiny chest rising and falling in sweet, synchronized rhythm.

The glass doors slid open quietly.

Dante stepped into the sunroom. He wore simple slacks and an open-collared white shirt, having completely discarded his dark mafia attire. The weariness on his face had softened, but the reverence in his eyes when he looked at Isabella was deeper than an ocean.

He walked over slowly, carrying a cup of organic herbal tea he had brewed with his own hands. Every meal, every drink Isabella had consumed over the past twenty-one days had been prepared exclusively by Dante. He trusted no one else with her life.

He set the cup on the small table beside her and knelt down on one knee beside her chair.

Isabella looked at him. The pain of the past months was not completely erased—scars of betrayal took years to heal. But when she looked into Dante’s eyes, she no longer saw the distant, untouchable mafia boss who treated her like an afterthought. She saw a man who had walked through hell, burned an entire syndicate, and laid his soul at her feet to atone for his sins.

"How are they?" Dante asked softly, his finger gently stroking Mia’s tiny cheek.

"They just fed," Isabella replied, her voice soft, free of the fear that once ruled her. "Luca has your appetite. He drank nearly three ounces."

Dante smiled—a genuine, rare smile that transformed his rugged features. He looked up at Isabella, taking her right hand—the wrist that had once been bruised and broken—and pressed his lips against her pulse point.

"The Commission is dismantled," Dante said quietly, his voice filled with unwavering resolve. "The DeLuca family is gone. Vanessa’s offshore assets were seized and transferred to a trust fund in your name. I stepped down from the street council, Isabella. Marco runs the day-to-day operations now. My only job... is guarding this room. Guarding you."

Isabella felt a tear trace down her cheek, but this time, it was not born of grief. It was the release of a heavy, suffocating weight she had carried for years.

"Why, Dante?" she asked softly. "You ruled the entire city. You gave it all up."

Dante reached out, his hand gently resting over her heart, feeling the steady, miraculous beat that had almost stopped forever.

"Because the city means nothing without its Queen," Dante whispered, leaning in until their foreheads rested against one another. "I spent my life building an empire of blood and concrete, never realizing that the only home I ever needed was right here in your arms. Forgive me, Isabella. Let me spend the rest of my life earning the right to be your husband."

Isabella looked down at their sleeping twins, then back into the fierce, devoted eyes of the most dangerous man in Chicago.

She turned her palm over and laced her fingers tightly through his.

"Then stay here, Dante," Isabella whispered, leaning forward to press her lips softly against his. "Stay here... and watch our children grow."

Outside, the Chicago wind blew cold and fierce against the lake, but inside the sunroom, sheltered in the fortress of an unbreakable love forged in fire, the Moretti family was finally whole.
