Chapter 9 - The Phoenix Rises

Six months later, the Manhattan skyline witnessed a historic transformation.
At the top of the iconic sixty-story skyscraper on Madison Avenue that had once borne the name *VANCE TOWER*, heavy industrial cranes lowered the final chrome lettering into place.
**BENNETT GLOBAL.**
The city was buzzing. Under Ava's leadership, the company had just released the world's first open-source medical diagnostic tool based on her proprietary neural-mapping software. Instead of hoarding the technology for billions in venture capital profits as Ethan and Julian had planned, Ava had made the core algorithms accessible to pediatric hospitals and non-profit research institutes worldwide.
In the executive penthouse office, floor-to-ceiling glass offered a panoramic view of Central Park, golden and red under the autumn sun.
Ava stood by the window, sipping herbal tea, her left hand catching the light—Dominic’s sapphire ring accompanied by a platinum wedding band.
A gentle pair of arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Dominic rested his chin against her shoulder, his chest warm and solid against her back.
"You should be resting, Mrs. Moretti," Dominic whispered softly against her ear. "The board meeting isn't until two."
"I spent five years hiding in the dark, Dominic," Ava smiled, turning in his embrace to loop her arms around his neck. "I don't want to waste a single second of daylight."
Dominic looked down at her with unreserved tenderness. The ruthless, terrifying predator of Wall Street melted completely whenever he was within her orbit.
"I received a report from the state correctional facility this morning," Dominic said quietly.
Ava raised an eyebrow. "Ethan?"
"He tried to petition for parole early on his misdemeanor bankruptcy fraud charges. Denied," Dominic said smoothly. "And Julian Vance’s final appeal was rejected by the Second Circuit. They are where they belong, Ava. The slate is clean."
Ava rested her head against Dominic’s chest, listening to the rhythmic, calming beat of his heart.
"Do you ever think about what would have happened if they hadn't humiliated me at the wedding?" she asked.
"I had been tracking Ethan for months, Ava," Dominic admitted, stroking her hair. "I was waiting for the right moment to expose him. But when that coward threw wine on you... when I saw the pain in your eyes... I realized that crushing his company wasn't enough. I had to let the entire world see you rise from the ashes."
"A phoenix," Ava murmured.
May you like
"My phoenix," Dominic agreed, leaning down to press his lips against hers in a passionate, slow kiss that sealed away the ghosts of the past forever.
