Chapter 19 - The Ash of the Blackwood Name

Two hours later, sirens screamed through the Hudson Valley as four tactical SWAT vans, state police cruisers, and a convoy of federal agents from the Department of Justice swarmed the Blackwood Estate.
Gabriel had called the Director of the FBI directly from Vance's satellite phone, bypassing every state-level channel.
Julian Blackwood, conscious and screaming curses, was dragged out of the grand ballroom in heavy chains, his broken limbs immobilized by paramedics before being loaded into a federal transport van under armed guard. Detective Marcus Vance was led away in his own handcuffs, his head hung low in utter disgrace as press photographers—who had intercepted the scanner traffic—flashed strobe lights into his bruised face.
Gabriel stood near the entrance gates, wrapped in a blanket, holding Sophie securely in his arms. Agent Katherine Reynolds, the Deputy Director of the Federal Task Force on Financial Crimes, approached him with a solemn expression.
"We recovered the offshore accounts, Mr. Mercer," Reynolds said, showing him the verified digital ledger on her tablet. "Forty-two million dollars. Every cent of it has been frozen. By executive order, Julian Blackwood, Everett Blackwood, and Marlene Blackwood will face federal racketeering, conspiracy to commit murder, and treason charges. They will die in separate supermax facilities. They will never see each other, and they will never see the sun."
"What about Victoria?" Gabriel asked, his voice steady.
"Arrested twenty minutes ago in Manhattan," Reynolds replied. "She was trying to board a private charter to Geneva. She’s facing thirty years as an accessory."
Reynolds looked down at Sophie, who was resting her head on Gabriel's shoulder, fast asleep from sheer exhaustion.
"And the money?" Reynolds asked. "Elena's trust technically reverts to Sophie."
Gabriel looked up at the towering, horrific silhouette of the Blackwood mansion. The place where Elena had suffered in silence. The place where his daughter had been forced to eat scraps off the floor by monsters in diamond necklaces.
"Burn it," Gabriel said quietly.
Reynolds blinked. "Excuse me?"
"Take the forty-two million dollars," Gabriel said, his voice ringing with absolute clarity. "Fund every child abuse investigative unit in the country. Build shelters. Pay for forensic lawyers for mothers who have no voice against powerful families. I don't want a single penny of Blackwood blood money touching Sophie’s future."
Reynolds looked at Gabriel with profound respect. She extended her hand. "You are an exceptional father, Gabriel."
"I’m just keeping a promise," Gabriel shook her hand.

As the federal convoys began to clear the estate, Gabriel carried Sophie back to a waiting FBI transport vehicle. Behind them, the great iron gates of the Blackwood Estate were welded shut by federal marshals, condemned forever to the history of greed and ruin.
