Chapter 26 - Victoria’s Confrontation

The penthouse ballroom of the Bellamy Port Authority tower gleamed with crystal chandeliers and overflowing champagne flutes. Two hundred of the city’s political elite, corporate moguls, and media cameras crowded the grand platform where Charles Bellamy stood behind a bank of microphones, basking in the flashbulbs.

Beside him stood Victoria Bellamy, dressed in an ivory designer evening gown, her hair perfectly coiffed, her diamond engagement necklace catching the glare of the television lights. Yet beneath her radiant smile, her jaw was clenched tight. Her phone had buzzed twelve times with no answer from Graves.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Charles Bellamy’s booming voice filled the auditorium. "Tonight marks the dawn of a new economic era for our city. By signing this landmark port transition, Bellamy Maritime ensures that our docks remain the premier commercial gateway of the eastern seaboard—"

The heavy oak doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open with a thunderous crash that echoed across the live television broadcast.

The chatter died instantly. Every camera swivelled around.

Daniel Mercer strode down the center carpet, his tux shirt ripped and bloodied, soot streaking his jawline, his gaze locked onto Charles Bellamy like an incoming missile. Behind him marched Agent Vance and two armed federal marshals.

"Daniel?" Victoria gasped into her open microphone, taking an involuntary step back from the podium.

The room erupted into frantic whispers and rapid shutter clicks.

"Stop the broadcast!" Charles hissed at his media director, his face flushing crimson with rage. "Security! Remove this lunatic from the building!"

"Don't bother, Charles!" Daniel’s voice rang through the ballroom, carrying the sheer, unbridled authority of the Mercer name. "Your security team is currently being processed at federal holding. And the port you're trying to sell isn't yours."

Daniel reached inside his coat and pulled out an enlarged, laminated document, holding it high for every camera to capture.

"This is the 1940 Havenwood Escrow Covenant, signed by Eleanor Mercer and countersigned by the Federal Maritime Board," Daniel announced, his voice cutting through the stunned silence. "And this is the birth record of Lydia Mercer’s surviving heir."

Daniel walked directly up the podium stairs, stopping two feet from Victoria. He looked into the eyes of the woman who had laughed as his mother was degraded in front of the world.

"You thought you were a Bellamy, Victoria," Daniel said softly, the microphone picking up every lethal syllable. "Charles didn't adopt you out of love. He stole you. You are Michael Mercer’s blood granddaughter. And the man you called your father has spent your entire life using you as an illegal front to steal your own family’s legacy."

Victoria’s breath caught in her throat. Her face drained of all color, her hands trembling so violently that her champagne flute slipped from her fingers, shattering on the stage.
