Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

One month later, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was bathed in the warm glow of a thousand crystal chandeliers.
The highest echelons of New York society—governors, foreign ambassadors, Wall Street titans, and underworld capos—stood shoulder to shoulder.
Whispers buzzed through the opulent crowd, thick with anticipation and nervous dread.
Everyone knew that tonight, the true rulers of the city would step into the light.
At the far end of the ballroom, two ornate throne-like chairs carved from black mahogany and velvet stood upon a raised marble dais.
Suddenly, the brass orchestra fell silent, replaced by the deep, resonant chime of the grand hall bells.
The massive golden double doors swung open.
The room held its collective breath.
Stepping through the threshold was Vincent Moretti, looking every inch the terrifying emperor of the underworld in an obsidian tuxedo.
Yet, for the first time in history, no one in the room was looking at Vincent.
Every eye was locked onto the breathtaking woman walking beside him, her hand tucked securely into the crook of his arm.
Emma Davis, the forgotten waitress, was dead.
In her place stood Emma Romano-Moretti, the radiant sovereign of the East Coast.
She wore a breathtaking, custom-designed midnight-blue gown stitched with real silver threads that cascaded to the marble floor like a waterfall of stars.
Resting against her collarbone was the ancient silver pendant of the Romano house, now flanked by a collar of flawless diamonds.
On her left hand, the ten-carat diamond ring caught the chandelier light, flashing brilliantly with every graceful step she took.
Her head was held high, her posture commanding and regal, carrying the centuries of noble blood that flowed through her veins.
The crowd parted before them like the Red Sea, men bowing their heads and women curtsying in silent, terrified reverence.
In the front row of the guests, standing in the shadows with casts on both of his broken hands, was Chase Montgomery.
His face was sunken, his eyes wide with hollow, traumatized horror as he looked upon the woman he had dared to strike.
His hedge-fund empire was bankrupt, his family disgraced, and his hands crippled forever.
As Emma passed him, she paused for a brief, freezing second.
She turned her hazel eyes toward Chase, her gaze calm, cold, and utterly indifferent.
She did not scream.
She did not taunt him.
She merely looked at him the way an empress looks at a speck of dirt beneath her boot before stepping forward.
Chase began to shake violently, looking down at the floor, utterly destroyed by her silence.
Vincent and Emma ascended the marble stairs of the dais, turning to face the hundreds of powerful figures gathered below.
Vincent raised his crystal glass of vintage champagne, his deep voice carrying effortlessly across the silent, packed ballroom.
“Fifteen years ago, cowards thought they could burn the Romano family into ash,” Vincent announced, his gaze sweeping over the crowd like a scythe.
“They thought they could steal their legacy and bury their bloodline in the dark.”
“Tonight, the darkness ends.”
Vincent reached down, taking Emma’s hand and raising it high above the crowd.
“Bow before Emma Romano-Moretti, the rightful heir to New York and the Queen of the Five Families!”
The entire ballroom exploded into deafening applause and cheers, every billionaire, senator, and mafia boss dropping to one knee before the dais.
Emma looked out over the sea of bowed heads, feeling the weight of her ancestors’ legacy settling comfortably upon her shoulders.
She was no longer running.
She was no longer hiding.
She turned to Vincent, seeing the endless, fierce devotion shining in his steel-gray eyes.
He leaned down, wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling her against his chest, and captured her lips in a deep, passionate kiss before the entire kneeling city.

The past had been burned away in blood, the traitors were in their graves, and the kingdom was whole once more.
Emma Romano had returned to her throne, and beside her king, she would rule for the rest of her days.
