Chapter 1 - The Blood on the Marble Floor

The air inside the five-star crystal dining room of Manhattan smelled of aged bourbon, black truffles, and unchecked vanity.
Emma adjusted her silver serving tray with trembling fingers, her feet aching after a grueling double shift that had stretched across twelve relentless hours.
At twenty-seven years old, she lived quietly in an unassuming brownstone flat, far removed from the predatory glare of New York’s elite.
Her only goal tonight was to finish her shift, collect her modest tips, and return to her modest life in peace.
Fate, however, had chosen this specific Friday night to set a devastating trap in motion.
Table nine was occupied by Chase Montgomery, the reckless thirty-year-old heir to a hedge fund empire worth billions.
He had already downed five dry martinis, his eyes glazed with the toxic arrogance of a man who believed the world was his private playground.
Beside him sat his two closest sycophants, laughing loudly at every crass remark that spilled from his designer-dressed mouth.
When Emma approached the table to replace the empty water carafes, Chase’s bloodshot eyes locked onto her slender silhouette.
Without warning, his hand shot out and clamped brutally around her waist.
Emma gasped in sheer horror as he dragged her violently toward his leather booth, spilling cold water across the pristine white linen.
“Come here, gorgeous, let’s see if your service is as sweet as that pretty little face,” Chase slurred, his hot breath reeking of expensive alcohol against her ear.
“GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME!” Emma shouted, her voice echoing sharply across the hushed dining room.
She panicked, driving both hands against his chest and shoving him away with every ounce of strength in her slender body.
The sudden force knocked Chase’s crystal glass onto his lap, drenching his tailor-made Italian trousers in crimson wine.
Gasps rippled through the neighboring tables as high-society patrons froze in their seats.
Chase stared down at the dark stain, his expression morphing from drunken lechery to venomous, unbridled fury.
Nobody told him no.
Nobody dared defy a Montgomery in public.
His teeth ground together with an audible snap as he rose from the booth like an enraged animal.
“You pathetic little gutter rat,” Chase hissed, his voice trembling with sheer malice.
Before Emma could take a single step backward, his fist carved through the air with sickening, brutal momentum.
The crack of knuckles striking bone echoed through the grand dining hall like a gunshot.
The blow caught Emma directly on the temple, shattering the delicate world around her in a burst of white-hot agony.
She was thrown sideways through the air, her shoulder crashing into an ice bucket before her head slammed violently against the polished Italian marble floor.
A delicate crystal wine glass shattered right beside her face, spraying sparkling shards across her hair.
A thin, dark ribbon of blood immediately began to weep from her hairline, pooling quietly against the cold, reflective stone.
Emma lay motionless, her eyes half-closed and unseeing, swallowed by deep, sudden unconsciousness.
Horrified silence gripped the restaurant, suffocating every whisper and freezing every waiter in place.
Instead of showing remorse, Chase rubbed his reddened knuckles and sneered down at the limp body.
His two wealthy friends burst into cruel, mocking laughter, raising their glasses to toast the violence.
“Guess the peasant should’ve learned some manners before working here!” one of them sneered.
Chase adjusted his cufflinks, utterly unbothered by the girl bleeding at his designer shoes.
Then, the heavy mahogany double doors at the restaurant entrance blew open with a thunderous bang.
A bitter gust of winter wind howled into the opulent room, bringing with it an aura of pure, suffocating death.
A tall silhouette stepped through the threshold, flanked by four broad-shouldered men in dark charcoal coats.
The man in the center removed his leather gloves with calculated, lethal precision.
His tailor-made three-piece obsidian suit framed a broad, imposing frame that radiated absolute dominance.
His jawline was carved from ruthless resolve, his steel-gray eyes devoid of any human warmth.
Vincent Moretti.
The undisputed king of the New York underworld, the ghost who commanded politicians, billionaires, and street generals alike.
The head waiter nearly fainted on the spot, backing away in sheer terror as Vincent stepped forward.
Vincent did not look at the waiter, nor did he look at the lavish chandeliers above.
His cold gaze swept across the marble expanse and locked onto the small, motionless figure lying in a pool of dark crimson.
In a fraction of a second, the emotionless mask of the mafia boss cracked into something terrifyingly wild.
His pupils contracted into sharp points of pure, apocalyptic fury.
He did not ask questions.

He did not pause for explanations.
The floor beneath Vincent seemed to shake as he surged forward with the terrifying speed of an unleashed predator.
