Chapter 10 - Reign of the Unbroken

Three months later.

The morning sun broke over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a brilliant golden light across the pristine lawns of the Calder estate. The scars of the midnight battle had been entirely erased; the marble in the grand foyer was replaced with white Carrara stone, the bullet holes patched and painted over with gilded trim.

In the Victorian glasshouse, the smell of sweet gardenias and blooming jasmine filled the warm air.

Vincent sat at an antique wrought-iron table, reading the morning financial papers. The headlines told the story of an unprecedented, seismic shift in the corporate and political landscape of the eastern seaboard: *MORETTI ENTERPRISES DECLARES CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY; ASSETS ABSORBED BY CALDER HOLDINGS.* *STATE SENATOR RESIGNS AMID MYSTERIOUS CORRUPTION PROBE.* *FEDERAL INVESTIGATION INTO PORT AUTHORITIES SUDDENLY DROPPED.*

The underworld had not merely stabilized; it had been bent to the absolute will of a single family.

A soft laugh echoed down the brick path.

Vincent set his paper down and smiled.

Mateo came running through the rows of ferns, dressed in clean, crisp linen shorts and a tiny navy blazer. His cheeks were round and pink with health, his slate-gray eyes wide with joy. In his hands, he clutched a wooden sailboat Vincent had carved for him.

"Papa! Look! The boat floats in the fountain!" the boy squealed, climbing onto Vincent’s lap without a single trace of the terrified child who once hid in the dark.

Vincent wrapped his arms around his son, burying his nose in the boy's clean curls. "Does it now, prince? We’ll take it to the lake this afternoon and test it against the big waves."

"Promise?"

"Calder promise," Vincent said softly, pressing a kiss to the boy's forehead.

Footsteps clicked rhythmically along the brick walkway.

Isabella approached the table. She wore a tailored white trouser suit of crisp Italian silk, her chestnut hair falling in glossy, elegant waves down her back. Her skin was radiant, full of life and color.

She stopped beside Vincent, resting a hand gently on his shoulder.

On her exposed wrist, the jagged tally marks were still there. But they had been transformed. Over the rough, pale scars, an exquisite tattoo had been etched in dark, delicate ink—a magnificent phoenix rising from the ashes, its feathers weaving through the tallies, turning a ledger of suffering into a masterpiece of unyielding power.

She looked down at her son, her eyes overflowing with a peace she had fought through hell to achieve.

"Marcus says the last of the shipping manifests from Brooklyn have been routed to our private docks," Isabella said, leaning down to press a soft kiss against Vincent’s lips. "Carmine Moretti has officially retired to a monastery in Sicily. He won't be returning."

Vincent caught her hand, his thumb running over the smooth ink of the phoenix on her wrist. "And what does the Queen want to conquer next?"

Isabella looked out through the glass panes of the conservatory, out toward the endless blue horizon of the Atlantic Ocean, where Calder cargo ships moved freely across the water under the absolute protection of her name.

She smiled—a smile that was radiant, fierce, and entirely unbroken.

"We don't need to conquer anything else, Vincent," Isabella said softly, placing her other hand over her son's small chest. "We already own the world."
