Chapter 15 - The Fall of Wall Street

At 09:30 AM, the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange sounded, and the floor descended into absolute pandemonium.

"Sell! Dump all Vance Sovereign Class-A shares! Dump them now!"

Brokers were screaming across the trading pit, their jackets drenched in sweat as trading monitors across the globe flashed an apocalyptic sea of crimson. Within four minutes of the opening bell, sixty billion dollars in market valuation evaporated from Vance-backed renewable energy firms, logistics grids, and sovereign bond portfolios.

In the private viewing box overlooking the exchange floor, a man in a bespoke three-piece charcoal suit stood with his hands resting on an ivory-handled walking stick. He possessed a mane of silver hair swept back with aristocratic perfection, cheekbones sharp enough to slice glass, and pale blue eyes devoid of any human empathy.

Lord Julian Sterling had returned to Manhattan.

"Look at them," Julian murmured to the shadow standing behind him—a seven-foot-tall Serbian enforcer named Branko. "Like rats trampling each other in a flooding sewer. Alexander Vance thought he could play with financial fire because he inherited his father's checkbook. He doesn't understand that the stock exchange isn't a marketplace. It’s an abattoir."

Julian’s encrypted phone buzzed in his palm. He tapped the receiver. "Report from the detention center. Is my niece disposed of?"

A pause. Then, a distorted, trembling voice came through the line. "Lord Julian... the extraction team... they never reported back. Guard Post Four was breached from the roof. The cameras were looped. Victoria Sterling is gone."

Julian's hand tightened around the ivory handle of his cane until his knuckles turned bone-white. The icy composure that had defined his career cracked for a fraction of a second.

"What do you mean, gone?" Julian hissed, his voice dropping into a register of terrifying fury. "Who took her?"

"The guards found a calling card pinned to the supervisor's desk with a combat knife," the voice stammered. "It was an ace of spades stamped with the seal of the United States Special Operations Command... and a note: *'Receipt collected. - The Waitress.'*"

Julian severed the call with a violent swipe of his thumb. He turned toward the panoramic glass overlooking the trading floor. Down below, the massive digital ticker display suddenly flickered. The red waterfall of plunging Vance stock abruptly froze.

Then, an impossible, vertical surge of green numbers began to obliterate the short positions.

One hundred billion dollars in fresh, untraceable liquidity poured into the market through sixteen institutional accounts registered in Singapore, Zurich, and Tokyo. The algorithmic short-squeeze triggered by the Vance Trust was devastating. Every hedge fund Julian had utilized to attack Vance was suddenly trapped in a catastrophic margin call.

"He counter-attacked," Julian muttered, his eyes widening in genuine disbelief. "Where did an old woman and her bastard son get one hundred billion in dry liquid capital within two hours?"

Behind him, the heavy oak doors of the private VIP box exploded off their hinges.
